I don't know if you can get it to work on Linux, but there is an Android method:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=352278

There is no Download & Transfer for the Android app, though. That option only exists for Kindle devices.

Kindle for PC in Wine. Although probably much less of a headache to get an older E-ink Kindle. Or use other ebook sources and forget Amazon.

The only way to get the Download & Transfer to USB option is to register a Kindle ereader (Kindle = eInk) older than 2024. The newest Kindles do not allow D&T.

And you will get lower resolution graphics then you should even when selecting a 300DPI Kindle for D&T.

For the most part I don't really care about image resolution since most of the images included in the ebooks I read are scene breaks, author pics, etc. Even most of the maps are not all that high resolution. A couple of authors have made hi-res map images available through their websites but including a 12MB image in an Amazon ebook is going to drive up the delivery costs.

There's no valid reason for delivery costs. Amazon is doing this just to make more money (IMHO).

Not for Wifi or D&T.
Only Kindles that are using a mobile/cell connection cost Amazon, which is now a tiny number.

It's a historic thing that has become a scam and is cheating publishers.

Amazon will reduce image size if "too" big and delete fonts if "too" many. The actual figure are not obvious on Amazon publishing info.

Publishers / Authors should put all the maps etc on websites (unless it's an atlas, graphic novel etc).

Of course it's a scam. There is no reason at all to reduce the image size/quality. Even for those on cell service. 2G is dead. 3G is either dead or dying and all that's left will be 4G/5G.

Amazon reduces images from what they think is too big to too small. I think a class action suit against Amazon should be filed to try to get this nonsense stopped.

I wonder if part of the image size concern is consideration for folks with low bandwidth connections

Maybe back when all that was available was 2G. But now there is no reason at all. Who has such a slow Internet connection that it takes that long to download an image heavy eBook?

Perhaps Amazon prefers to send millions of books that are 500K rather than millions of books that are 22MB? And you might want to remember that the authors pay $0.15 (US & Canada, other countries can get even more expensive) per megabyte which comes out of their share of the book price. So that 22MB book would cost the author $3.30 compared to $0.075 for the 500K ebook. Of course, if you go for the 35% royalty, Amazon will not charge the delivery charges but then they are getting an additional 35% of the price. See Digital Book Pricing Page for more information.

When you look at AWS, Amazon's bandwidth charges are painful. One main reason that my employers dropped AWS and went with other providers.

There's no reason to charge for bandwidth. There's no reason to reduce image size/quality. There's no reason to cheat customers into not getting an eBook with the correct images. Amazon is doing this because nobody is challenging them and they make more money by scamming authors and customers.

Edit: Don't mind me, I forgot to put my kindle serial code into the DeDRM plugin
______
Trying method 1, I have an 11th gen kindle paperwhite and an older kindle keyboard so I'm able to download my books as both .azw3 or .azw. I'm on calibre version 7.24.0 and have DeDRM 10.0.9 installed, but when I go to read or convert any books downloaded from Amazon I get the message "This book is locked by DRM. To learn more about DRM and why you cannot read or convert this book in calibre, click here."
