Calibre 7.22 (latest)
Kobo Touch Extended (latest) Windows 11 Previously had a Kobo Aura One. No trouble there. I use Calibre for library management. I then installed Kobo Touch Extended. Set to convert to kepub on the fly. Still no trouble. Got a new Kobo Libra Colour. Now, I'm having some trouble. Trying to transfer my whole library (2,700 books), I get the error below. I'm able to transfer 1 book at a time, 100 books, etc. I'm trying in increments to figure out where the trouble is - if there's just one or more problem books - but thought I'd ask here in the meantime. Code:
calibre, version 7.22.0 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'C:\\Users\\XXX\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\calibre_97e25o2a\\qebqbnxe_epub_container\\OEBPS\\META-INF\\titlepage.xhtml' Traceback (most recent call last): File "calibre\gui2\device.py", line 112, in run File "calibre\gui2\device.py", line 646, in _upload_books File "calibre_plugins.kobotouch_extended.device.driver", line 343, in upload_books File "calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 2283, in upload_books File "calibre_plugins.kobotouch_extended.device.driver", line 177, in _modify_epub File "calibre_plugins.kobotouch_extended.container", line 121, in __init__ File "calibre_plugins.kobotouch_extended.container", line 388, in __run_async_over_content File "calibre_plugins.kobotouch_extended.container", line 375, in __run_async File "calibre_plugins.kobotouch_extended.container", line 371, in __run_async File "concurrent\futures\_base.py", line 449, in result File "concurrent\futures\_base.py", line 401, in __get_result File "concurrent\futures\thread.py", line 58, in run File "calibre_plugins.kobotouch_extended.container", line 287, in forced_cleanup File "calibre\ebooks\oeb\polish\container.py", line 624, in raw_data File "calibre\ebooks\oeb\polish\container.py", line 1108, in open FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'C:\\Users\\XXX\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\calibre_97e25o2a\\qebqbnxe_epub_container\\OEBPS\\META-INF\\titlepage.xhtml' |

That sounds as if something on your computer is interfering with calibre's temp files since it appears that titlepage.xhtml is being deleted. Antivirus/antimalware software is likely the most common suspect.
You could try using msconfig to disable all non-Microsoft services and then restarting to see if the issue persists. If the problem goes away, try adding back the non-Microsoft services in batches until the program re-occurs at which point you know the issue is with the last batch re-enabled. In the image below, you would click on Hide all Microsoft services and then Disable all. |

By loading in batches, I've narrowed this down to a single file. Will investigate in detail tomorrow. Thanks for suggestions.

If it's one of your epubs, you could try opening the file with either calibre's ebook-editor or Sigil after installing the epubcheck plugin and see what epubcheck has to say about that file.

Calibre was able to fix all problems automatically, and it then passed epubcheck.
Thanks! I initially assumed this was a communication problem, not a file problem. Glad it was so easily fixed. |
