Ghost Point by James Hetley (ISFDB) is the 4th novel in his Stonefort series of contemporary rural fantasy with paranormal mystery/suspense elements set in Maine in a roughly 70s-80s retro period, this installment starring a Vietnam veteran retired to an isolated wilderness area, where he finds that the spirit world which apparently he began to encounter during the war will not leave him alone, as danger stalks an acquaintance of his, free courtesy of the author himself via backlist author re-publishing consortium Book View Café.
This is a self-published continuation to a trilogy originally published by Ace Books in the mid-2000s. Currently free directly @ the BVC webstore (DRM-free ePub & Mobi; checkout requires a billing address but no payment info and you don't need to create an account) Don't forget to check out their other monthly specials, where there are books across all genres discounted to just 99 cents, and their sporadically rotated selection of downloadable and read-online freebie shorts as well. Description Eight years ago, Dennis Carlsson returned from Vietnam with a chest full of medals, a head full of nightmares, and a plastic foot. Now he just wants the world to leave him alone on his isolated point of Maine coast, caring for injured animals and living as simply as he can. However, both real and spirit worlds have other plans for his guardian strength. His nightmares have followed him home in a face from those memories, wildlife biologist Susan Tranh — prickly as a porcupine and with some strange bond to eagles, stalked by criminals for no reason she can see. Tied deep into land and lore, the Haskell Witches know a lot more about Ghost Point than he does. The Naskeag tribe calls his home Spirit Point, a place to meet spirits and find visions. They avoid the place because they know the spirit world is dangerous. And winter has its own deadly agenda . . . |

Just a reminder that this will probably be the last day to pick up the freebie or purchase any of the tie-in bundles, if you haven't already.
