For comparison, at amazon.co.uk:

eBook: £4.99
Amazon price for paperback: £5.00

Not necessarily. I've seen a few where the ebook price didn't go down when the dtb was released in paperback. Even if it does go down it will, under the current pricing structure, be the same price as the paperback or maybe even a dollar or two more. I think the current pricing structure stinks but at least the ebook price is usually less than the MSRP for the hardcover. Not so with paperbacks.

Was it the same publisher then? Did the publisher that released the paperback also release the more expensive ebook?

Unfortunately I can't remember the specific book I just remember being surprised that the ebook price didn't go down when the paperback was released.

If you can remember the publisher, can probably write a program that grabs and sample and see if that happens consistently for them, given Amazon's search limitations and limits, anyway.

Unless that law gets changed, in the UK it isn't really a fair comparison.
We have no GST( your Vat) on books or ebooks and we pay much more and are Geographically Restricted to buy from USA.
