Calibre appears to be stuck on "Get list of books on Device"

I have been using Calibre for about 5 years without any problems. Earlier this year I purchased a new Nook GlowLight, and after updating the software also had no problems. About 4 months ago, however, I started experiencing a problem whereby the Library never seems to update. It sticks on the "Get List of Books on Device" section. It accepts my "send books to device" but never actions it - just shows no of jobs on device. I have tried leaving it overnight - but it doesn't move. I am not terribly technical, and am not sure what to do!

How much Storage (main and SD card)? More, means longer to complete the initial scan

The initial scan must complete, then you may configure it to just look in designated places for a much shorter scan time.
