Well, no. Of course not. And certainly not now. But the likelihood of my reading many books bought in the binge years is virtually nonexistent. Every now and then, I do a mini-purge, but the reality is that it's not worth the time to parse every single purchase in regard to its readability. Hence the relative figure and not the absolute one. I'm interested in the direction, not in how many books that will never be read anyway languish. No point in wasting good reading time on sunk costs.

I totally understand that. A few years ago, I completely purged my TBR list since I knew I would never get to most of the books I had binge acquired in the couple years after I turned to ebooks. There is some overlap between that list and the list that I maintain now, but I don't want to spend the time to figure out the totals.

I have not purchased an ebook all year. However, I did join two libraries costing $120.

For what it's worth, calibre shows me as having acquired 1147 ebooks from 2024-Jan-01 to 2024-Nov-30. Sadly, my TBR is currently sitting at 2. Most of them were purchases, some were from Kobo's Kobo Plus (dummy entries in calibre), some were ARC releases and some were PD or other freebies. Does the Book Devouring Horde offer membership cards?

I've completed Mom's series and just have a handful of the detective novels left so overall, my wishlist is pretty darn short now.
Got caught again by the site wide Audible Sale. On the plus side, all of the audiobooks were either in my wishlist (which is pretty short) or new offerings in series I listen to. No new authors. No new series.

Calibre library shows I gotten 472 books so far in 2024, 248 of them read. 208 were fanfics, ~150 were eBook purchases (more than any other year before), the rest an assortment of library books, free giveaways, public domain stuff, game manuals, and paper books I'd never gotten around to cataloging before.

Note that this not include some physical books I purchased (wanted to finish an out-of-print series)... I made the mistake of ordering them before the Canada Post strike.

Since Prolific.com lifted the block on my ISP and my cat-related expenses were cut in half () I've had more discretionary income.

My purchases are way down from the halcyon Kobo coupon years. I did go a bit over the top then. But what's really changed things is getting access to a good library. I'm not buying nearly as many books, though I admit I haven't counted them. And my books read every year sticks at 160 +/-10 pretty much every year. I've bought only 50 books this year, and almost all of them under $7. All the rest of my reading has been library or re-reads of old favourites.

At my current reading rate, I have 5-7 years worth of books. I tell my wife that I'm just planning for retirement - which she loves because she has zero guilt about adding to the DTB collection!

This is me, as well. I bought 10 audiobooks. They were all on my wishlist and I even restricted myself to the cheaper ones that I wouldn't be able to borrow from my library. So, I consider that a win.

I've spent almost all my $50 +$10 gift card already, stocking up for Dean Street December which has become an annual feature of my reading calendar.

Over the course of three hours, I just saved 20 fanfics to my Calibre library. At least they didn't cost anything.

I just used up my $50+10 card today. (On different books though.)

I could never do it as I cannot stand the way that blog is so very poorly formatted. It looks awful in Firefox.

Edit: It's not Firefox, it's just as bad in Edge as well. It;s the really poor code.
