Free Book (Kindle/EPUB/Nook) - Admit One
Admit One: My Life in Film, by Emmett James, is free in the Kindle & B&N stores, joining the free listings at Borders and Sony.
Book Description Set in Croydon, South London, in the 1980s, Admit One details how self-deprecating writer Emmett James escaped from the pains of adolescence by going to the cinema. Through wry wit and observation, the writer reflects, obsesses, and rages about film and its correlation to our pasts. Life soon imitates art, and the narrator finds that his true calling is in transcendence from one side of the screen to the other. He decides to leave England for the only place where he can realize his dream of becoming an actor--Hollywood. We follow the narrator on his numerous adventures: as he jumps from forgery to pornography to crashing the Academy Awards under the alias of a nominated writer. All the while, the films that inspired each tale contextualize this humorous collection of stories. The narrator ultimately provides a unique insight into the fascinating industry of film, eventually himself stumbling into the biggest box-office grossing film of all time. It may not be free to UK Kindlers.
But there are two free listings at Kobo (I have no idea what, if any difference there is between them) for DRM ePub, which you should be able to put on your Sony without any difficulty and one of them may turn out to be free for your region, too. Admit One (listing #1) Admit One (listing #2) |

Thanks. I downloaded from link one and discovered that the format will work on the PRS 505. However, it requires ADE, which never works for me; probably my fault!
Thanks for the heads up anyway. |

Is there really any practical difference between a book being free and costing less than 1p? Seems to be a bit of a pointless complaint .

Harry, that was 70p, the decimal point may have been misleading, but I usually write the pence after a point. The problem with having to pay, regardless of how little, is the setting up of an account and handing over card details. The less I do this on the internet, the better.
There is only one site I actually buy things from and that's the Tesco online site. This is because I have 6 cats and need masses of food for them. I don't drive so it's much easier to have it delivered. (I ended up with so many cats because my final feral rescue failed to find homes - a mother and her three boys - so I had them all jabbed etc and have kept them along with the two resident cats.) The 6 cats are why I prefer free books. Every time I spend 50p I think "that's a can of cat food"! |
