Editor corrupts images randomly
The calibre editor randomly modifies EPUB files, which are opened with it, without even clicking Save. I believe it is caused by downscaling images very hard. That doesn't always happen, and I wan't able to find out what does trigger that.
No part of the book should be changed, unless it is explicitly saved by the user. |

The calibre editor does not downscale images automatically, ever. Nor does it modify files you are editing by itself ever. WHen you click edit in calibre, calibre will update the metadata in the file you want to edit before opening it in the editor, behavior you can turn off in editor preferences under calibre integration.
