Ein eher schwacher Artikel, die üblichen Plattitüden und (meiner Meinung nach) Falschurteile wieder aufgewärmt. Die Fotostrecke allerdings bietet einen hübschen Überblick über neue Geräte, mehr aber auch nicht.
Mein Hauptkritikpunkt am Artikel ist das ständige Genörgle über fehlende Farbe. Man nehme sich einfach mal die Bücher im Regal vor: Wieviele davon verwenden Farbe im Text? Wieviele haben Bilder? Bei mir sind das eigentlich nur die Fachbücher, und selbst die kämen ohne aus.
Leute, das sind Anzeigegeräte für Bücher. Bücher enthalten Schrift. Wieso also sollte eine "nahezu perfekte Schriftdarstellung" nicht ausreichen? Klar, falt- oder rollbare Displays wären schick, in etwa A4-groß und (etwas) schnelleren Refreshraten als die älteren Ebook-Lesegeräte. Aber Bücher lesen, und genau dafür sollten die Dinger doch da sein, kann man schon auf einem Gerät wie meinem Uralt-Gen3 ziemlich gut.

Das mußte mal raus, stört mich an bisher jedem Ebook-Artikel, den ich gelesen habe. Dafür gefiel mir Gibsons Kommentar aber ziemlich gut.

Das überlese ich inzwischen geflissentlich.

Es ist schon echt lustig immer zwischen Leuten zu stehen die entweder einerseits ausschließlich und nur auf statische Zellstoffseiten (ich kaufe ürigens weiterhin u.a. auch noch solche) schwören oder andererseits 3D-Kino auf ihrem eReader sehen wollen .

Es sind und bleiben halt Spartengeräte. Nicht "Nischengeräte".

I. Ü. braucht ja auch nicht jeder eine Kaffeemaschine.

Mir hat der Artikel gefallen. Ich kann mich übrigens nicht erinnern, daß darin von Farbe die Rede war , scheint so, ich überlese das auch inzwischen.

Vor allem die Kritik an den Verlagen finde ich zutreffend, an deren Betonmentalität. Ist das, wie vermutet, der Grund für Amazons Zurückhaltung auf dem deutschen Markt? Und die Beobachtung, daß nach der Hype ums iPad wieder Alltag einzieht, die Erkenntnis, daß man am besten auf den kleinen eInk-Displays lesen kann.

Die Kritik an den Verlagen ist berechtigt, das stimmt. Die Feststellung, dass scheinbar jede Branche die Fehler, die die Musikindustrie mit dem Aufkommen von MP3 gemacht hat, wiederholen muß, ist nicht neu, aber zutreffend. Und selbst die Musikindustrie hat ja jetzt nicht gerade die optimalen Möglichkeiten gefunden, mit Inhaltsverbreitung via Internet umzugehen...

Ich seh' das mit der Farbe umgekehrt.

Wenn eInk-Geräte plötzlich brillante Farbdisplays haben, möchte ich diese Leute aber dann auch an der Ladenkasse stehen sehen! Denn dann haben sie kein (vernünftiges) Argument mehr.

Das mit der Farbe ist soweit ja sogar in Ordnung. Schließlich besteht die Buchwelt nicht nur aus Belletristik, sondern auch aus Kochbüchern, Reiseführern oder Bildbänden. Und da ist Farbe ja absolut legitim.

Okay, Reiseführer kann ich verstehen. Bildbände? Nein, danke, dann doch lieber tote Bäume- die Druckqualität ist einfach besser. Und wenn ich mir angucke, wie meine Küche aussieht, wenn ich "richtig" koche, dann will ich da kein relativ teures Elektronikgerät rumliegen haben

Aber IMHO:

Nein. Dann ist die Technik natürlich vieeel zu teuer. Dann ist für die breite Masse noch ein Unterscheidungsmerkmal mehr weg und die werden wegen der Preise erstmal Billig- (und Apple- ) Tablets kaufen. Die schlucken stromsparende Farbdisplays erst dann, wenn es (fast) nichts anderes mehr gibt. Und ob so ein Tag kommt werden wir sehen ...

Lesen reicht doch - sehe ich auch so. Alles andere macht imo mit der aktuellen Technik auch keinen Sinn. (Oyo und Kindle machen das genau richtig)

Also das mit der Farbe und "Kinder" ist ja wohl eine Sache für sich.
Ich werde es bald merken, meine Tochter lernt gerade lesen und schreiben.
(So alt bin ich noch nicht, meine Kinderbücher waren nur "klein" oder "dünn" aber viele Bilder waren nicht drin)
Und ich werde sie nicht vor ein Farbdisplay mit LCD-Technik setzen - so eine Idee auch nur zu schreiben. Kinder können von mir aus gern einige Zeit vor dem LCD-Monitor verbringen, aber nicht um zu lesen.

(Ich spreche da aus Erfahrung, Beruflich 365/24h vor dem Bildschirm)

Die Leute die sich ein I-Pad oder ähnliches kaufen, die legen gar keinen großen Wert auf "lesen". Die wollen damit Videos gucken und im Internet surfen. Tablet-PC halt. Ich habe gestern mit der Verwandschaft darüber gesprochen und der Punkt hat sich bestätigt.
Wollen wir hoffen, dass der Markt für Ebook-Reader wächst und erhalten bleibt. Fehlt mir noch, dass ich auf einem LCD-Bildschirm lesen soll (wer es mag soll es machen). Meine Augen machen das nicht mit nach Feierabend.

Ich glaube, bei Farbe ging es auch um farbfähige EInk-Displays, oder? Abgesehen davon sind so teure Geräte (noch?) nicht wirklich kindergeeignet, weil zu zerbrechlich. Die müßten viel robuster sein. Und man nimmt den Kindern letzten Endes auch einige der kleinen Freuden des Lesens, wie zum Beispiel das Einreißen von Seiten

irgendwie tun dann aber n haufen leute so als ob alle totbäume auf dero Regalen Hochglanzführer durch den Louvre wären...
IMHO wäre eine mit "tabs" vergleichbare lesezeichen-technik zusammen mit schnellerem Bildaufbau weitaus förderlicher als farben, weil sie den Gebrauch v Fachbüchern und nachschlagewerken erheblich erleichtern würde.
