Dana, Richard Henry: Two Years Before the Mast. v1 31Dec2009
Attachment 42256This is the original version of this American sailing classic. It seems worthwhile making this available, if only because it has a concluding chapter in which the author sets down thoughts and reflections on his voyage. In later versions, he deleted this chapter.
This version also includes the chapter "24 Years Later." In the original version, Dana referred to some of his shipmates and others only by the first initial of their last name, but identified them in subsequent versions. I've spelled out the names in this ebook version. Italics have been added using a printed copy of the book as a source. Jim 2/11/11-The latest version is able to provide waypoints without having italicized paragraphs with different indentation than the other paragraphs. It also supports page numbering for Kindle 3 readers. The first two versions had 362 downloads. This work is assumed to be in the Life+70 public domain OR the copyright holder has given specific permission for distribution. Due to changes in the way Calibre converts books to Mobi, I've provided a new version of the book. Formerly, if a paragraph began with an italicized word, Calibre would eliminate the indentation. That was a particular problem with this book because all the journal entries begin with an italicized date, and the date should stand out by beginning a new paragraph. Now, all the dates are indented, otherwise, everything is the same, no changes made in the text at all.
