Author maintenance: where is 'link' for?
When I pop up the author maintenance dialog, there are three fields: author, sort_author and link.
I can't seem to find any documentation on the 'link' column. Where is it used for? |

Purpose is to store a link to an external URI such as the authors 's website (http://blah), or a folder/file of stuff you have for the author (file://blah), or other programs such as EverNote (evernote://blah) or OneNote (onenote://blah) that publish a URI for each unit of stored information (e.g. note), in which you maintain author specific info.
If present then that's where you'll go when you click on the author's name in the Book Details (right sidebar) panel. If it's absent then you'll go to whatever is specified in Preferences->Look and Feel->Book Details BR |

Interesting...
It would be very nice if calibre had a built-in note editor as to maintain notes on authors and books without being dependent on 3rd party tools and potentially untrustable companies. Personally, I expect calibre to live longer than EverNote c.s.. Just dreaming... |

Try the "Search The Internet" plugin with some locally hosted wiki. The advantage is you don't need to manually link everything. Just build a template like 127.0.0.1/?q={title} and takes you to your notes...

If you want to maintain a note on books, simply use the comments field or a custom column. If you want to maintain notes on authors, as uli points out you can maintain them in a wiki, or just use a folder with plain text files and use file:/// URLs to link them.

Is it documented somewhere how to add my own protocol handers?
EDIT: Found it! It's all basic Gnome functionality. Great! Last edited by sciurius; 02-24-2018 at 10:20 AM. |
