Buchclub Extra: Die Lese-Challenge 2019

Herzlich willkommen bei der Lese-Challenge 2019!

Alle Jahre wieder ist es so weit: Wir laden ein zu einer neuen Lese-Challenge. Es geht los am 1. Januar 2019.

Jeder kann mitmachen, jeder steckt sich seine Ziele selbst. Oder vielleicht habt ihr auch einfach nur Lust, bei uns mitzulesen. Wir hatten in den vergangenen Jahren so viel Spaß hier, dass @hamlok und ich uns fürs neue Jahr wieder ein paar Dinge ausgedacht haben.

Vor allem geht es aber wie immer darum, unsere Lesezeit möglichst angenehm zu verbringen - Hausaufgaben haben wir lange genug in der Schule (und noch danach) gemacht.

Ich freue mich auch schon auf das nächste Lesejahr und reserviere mir schon mal einen Platz.

Punkte-Challenge

Die Punkte-Challenge wird es auch 2019 wieder geben. Diesmal werden zu 10 Stichworten Punkte gesammelt und wir treten dabei in einen kleinen Wettbewerb, wer welche Stichwort-Kategorie für sich entscheiden kann. Die Seitenanzahl entspricht dabei den Punkten und jedes Buch darf nur zu einem Stichwort punkten. Wir haben beschlossen, dass die SUB-Leichen dabei doppelt bepunktet werden. Claire Norths Buch klingt super interessant, aber ich habe zwei Bücher von ihr gelesen und war doch immer von der Umsetzung nicht so begeistert. Vielleicht kommst du ja besser mit ihr zurecht, manchmal liegt einem der Stil eines Autors einfach nicht.

Ich entscheide mich daher für Sawyer. Die Kombi ebook+audiobook ist derzeit sehr günstig, ich werde es mir dann auch kaufen. Du bist ja seit Jahren großer Fan, ich kenne bisher nur ein Buch von ihm, weil der Autor bei uns leider kaum übersetzt wurde. Da ich aber in diesem Jahr mehr englische Hörbücher hören möchte (vielleicht wird das noch eine zusätzliche Challenge), ist das doch eine gute Gelegenheit sich mit dir darüber auszutauschen.

@hamlok - Bevor du das Hörbuch von Golden Fleece kaufst, hör dir bitte die Hörprobe an! Ich finde sie nämlich leider ganz schrecklich, das wird das erste Hörbuch von Robert Sawyer, das ich wohl nicht kaufen werde.

Gute Wahl übrigens bei meinen Titeln, ich fürchte, Matt Haig wird noch ein paar Monate auf dem SuB verbringen müssen.

Gut, das war auch nicht ganz einfach zu entscheiden. Eigentlich klingen alle drei interessant, aber mit den Russen habe ich oft meine Probleme. Spukhäuser sind auch immer gut, aber ich glaube, die müsen bei mir nun genau wie Weihnachten ein Weilchen warten. Von Robert McCammon habe ich noch nichts gelesen, aber ein Buch auf dem SuB (nicht dieses hier) und ich habe allgemein Gutes über ihn gehört. Also meine Wahl fällt auf Nr. 3.

Ja, das ist eine schöne Wahl, habe schon einige begeisterte Stimmen dazu gehört. Das habe ich als ebook, eine deutsche Hörbuchversion dazu gibt es leider nicht, wird also etwas dauern bis es dazu eine "Rezension" gibt.

Jodi Taylor: White Silence

Jodi Taylor war mir bisher von ihrer Zeitreise-Serie um die Historiker von St. Mary's bekannt, die ich dieses Jahr auch endlich weiterlesen möchte. White Silence ist der Auftakt zu einer neuen Serie mit einer Protagonistin, die ein besonderes Talent hat: Sie kann Dinge sehen, die für "normale" Menschen unsichtbar sind, das äußert sich zunächst vor allem durch etwas, das wir wohl als "Aura" bezeichnen würden. Jeder hat eine Aura aus Farben um sich herum, die mehr oder weniger die Gesinnung und den allgemeinen emotionalen Zustand einer Person widerspiegeln. Elizabeth weiß immer, ob jemand ihr Böses will oder nicht. Sehr praktisch, aber auch etwas, das andere, die davon wissen, gerne für ihre Zwecke ausnutzen würden.

Eigentlich bin ich misstrauisch, wenn ein Buch als "supernatural Thriller" bezeichnet wird, das klingt zu sehr wie "supernatural Romance". Ein wenig Romance muss man bei Jodi Taylor immer einkalkulieren, aber hier hält sich dieser Aspekt der Geschichte doch sehr in Grenzen. Ich weiß nicht, warum, aber Taylors Schreibstil gefällt mir einfach gut, ihre Figuren sind dreidimensional genug, um mit ihnen mitzuleiden und Elizabeth als Heldin wider Willen hat mir gut gefallen. Gehört habe ich die ungekürzte Hörbuchversion, die von Kate Scarfe gelesen wird. Diese Sprecherin war neu für mich, sie hat eine angenehme Stimme und den Ton dieses Buches gut getroffen.

4 Sterne für Buch und Sprecherin und 323 Punkte für die Geister. Mit dem nächsten Band werde ich allerdings ein wenig warten, weil ich im Moment erst mal genug Geister hatte.

Dieses Buch hat erfreulicherweise nicht viel Zeit auf meinem SuB verbracht. Aus dem kleinen Jungen namens Weihnachten aus dem ersten Band ist der Weihnachtsmann geworden, der auf die tolle Idee kommt, in einer Nacht alle Kinder der Welt zu beschenken. Amelia ist seine erste Kundin, doch ein Jahr später hat er Probleme, sie wiederzufinden.

Mir haben die Figuren in diesem Buch wieder richtig gut gefallen, es ist ein herrlich schwarzer Kinderbuchspaß, wie man ihn von den Briten gewohnt ist. Bei Matt Haig geht es da zunächst nicht viel netter zu als bei Roald Dahl, bevor sich alles zum Guten wendet. Die Geschichte spielt in der viktorianischen Zeit, und wir begegnen dabei auch Charles Dickens, der erst noch seine berühmte Weihnachtsgeschichte schreiben muss. Ich freue mich schon auf den dritten Teil, der nun allerdings ein Weilchen auf meine Gunst warten muss.
