Kobo Aura (6") sudden immense battery drain

Hi folks,
I bought a new ("refurbished") Kobo Aura - the 6" one - about a year and a half ago from a reputable ebay seller. I use it strictly to read - brightness is at 1% at night to 10% MAYBE during the day. No wifi. Has always lasted me a few weeks-month between charges, and I keep firmware updated.

As of one week ago it now drains immediately after charging. I'll charge it to 99% (never goes to 100%) and then upon unplugging its at 70%. Then down to 50%. Hovers at 50%, then drains more. If i don't power down, its dead by morning.

I tried the paperclip reset, didn't help. Is this just a case of an old device and I need a new one or is this one salvageable? Can I replace the battery if the battery is dead? I HATE landfilling something useful but as this is my travelling book, I need something reliable.

Thanks for any help.

firstly i would go back to one of the older firmwares when you knew the battery was ok. if the battery problem still exists then maybe you do need to replace it.

good luck sorting it out.

Was there any change to the device just before the battery drain started happening (firmware update, new sleepcover etc.)? If not, your battery is probably failing.

And to add to Mathil: how about a change in what you're reading? Books with an error in them can drain the battery dramatically, and some PDFs seem to drain the battery in sleep mode more than usual in one of the recent firmwares (4.9? 4.10?).

i have you tried doing a factory reset? if not give it a go you've nothing to lose except the books you already have on the device so you will need to put them back on later. if you do decide to do the factory reset do it while you are charging the device so the battery doesn't go flat on you. after the factory reset i would then only put 1 book on to begin with and see how the battery is then.

good luck.

You also didn't start reading a different book (that was already on the device)?
