Villa Mimosa by the late Irish author Jerrard Tickell (Wikipedia), whose WWII comedy novel Appointment with Venus has been twice adapted to film, is his standalone historical literary fiction heist thriller set during WWII in occupied France, centred around a daring plan to mount a rescue operation for stranded British civilians from an area which had supposedly been safely evacuated, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press.

This was originally published in 1960 by Hodder & Stoughton, and has previously been offered free in 2016.

When Major Charles Addison — alias Charles Bertin, watch-maker — rode his bicycle along a poplar-lined road in occupied France in 1944, he saw like signal flags a string of feminine undergarments on a clothes line.
