@maximalmobi7,

Lengthy posts regarding the compilation of ExtractCoverThumbs are off-topic for this thread.

Please be considerate and move that discussion to a more appropriate thread, such as this one.

Thanks I moved post of the posts to that link today, I just edited them,
Spoiler:
and reposted them to that link, again it had to do with kfx since I was trying to compile that support into it, so in any case it was not exactly off-topic since I was talking about kfx support in the app, just not calibre or kfx output plugin, but that app could be good for if you say want icons on your device without having to download every icon for every ebook you may have, if you say to the kfx output plugin at all.

I was trying to use the information that user in the last posts I posted online at their website, in any case, I was able to get the con.exe working but not the gui.exe file, again it did have to do with kfx but not with calibre or kfx output plugin, it had to do with ExtractCoverThumbs support files for kfx icons to work with the kfx output format, I hope you understand me about that.

I have yet to try to change kfx to azw8 since that extension will open in Kindle Previewer 3, but the kfx extension doesn't open at all in the software that outputs the kfx format, so I think its better to stick with an extension like azw8 with kfx format in it, that makes sense right? so I was thinking of trying to make the default with kfx support first, then try to correct it to work with azw8 files so they have their icons instead. I am going to at this point to wait for an windows app, since I am tried of wasting my time trying to compile software that is clearly broken in some way or another. I don't plan on posting any more about broken software , we see if kindle even switches from azw3 to kfx at all, at this point the broken software is annoying me since I can't get it to compile without problems but any help would still be great on this matter, I just may not post anymore since I am out of ideas about how to make it compile without problems for kfx support.

It is too bad that the Kindle Previewer 3 does not handle the .kfx extension for opening KFX files when all of Amazon's other apps and devices (that I am aware of) support it. The .azw8 extension is also widely supported, but I haven't tested it enough to know whether or not it could act as a replacement for .kfx everywhere.

Rather than changing the plugin to produce files with an .azw8 extension, I am going to release a small (Windows) program that allows files with a .kfx extension to be opened by the Previewer. With this you will be able to click on the "KFX" label in the book details panel in calibre and see the results of KFX conversion.

Thank you!

I am working on an update to the plugin documentation in the first post and I will mention ExtractCoverThumbs there.

I haven't used this type of automatic page numbering myself, but my understanding is that it works by dividing the content of the book into pages so that the results match the expected page count, but not the exact page boundaries of a print edition of the book.

For this type of page numbering to work with the KFX Output plugin the page numbers would need to be already present in the source EPUB before conversion. It should be possible to insert page numbers into an EPUB automatically, perhaps on paragraph boundaries, but I am not aware of any software that does this.

Thank you, that makes it a lot easier to use it, thank again for releasing a binary, I don't no exactly why I was having trouble to compiling it, I did read somewhere online that windows 10 Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.222) has problems compiling python software but I don't no exactly if that's the case in this matter or if python just doesn't not like my computer.

Spoiler:
is it possable to get an kfx or azw8 transfer plugin for calibre to transfer them to kindle devices, and to android tablet devices too? a plugin that can do both or 2 plugins for both devise to allow transfer of these file types to our devices?
Spoiler:

since it more has to do with ExtractCoverThumbs with KFX support than kfx itself, sorry about that, it allows editing but not deleting of posts it seems.

I was thinking if calibre was able to transfer our ebooks in either kfx or azw8 that this software could work for making icons but once it subfolders would the icon books be broken or still on the device and working with the ebooks?

it would be nice if their was an transfer plugin for azw8 and kfx, plus could be nice if you could use say this software ExtractCoverThumbs_win to use like an plugin in calibre to run it when transferring the files from calibre to our devices that just an idea any way.

also was wondering if ExtractCoverThumbs_win with kfx and azw8 worked for files on android tablets under books, so you could generate the icons from android 10.1 tablet devices?

is their anyone working on an transfer plugin for kfx and azw8 files at all, or do we need to wait for an new version of calibre that supports transferring of these files?

Spoiler:
its nice to have an plugin that does the azw8 output and the kfx output, I already made the kfx output zip file work for me with azw8 output, but it doesn't help that calibre can't transfer the files at all. and an app to make icons for them.

its good to be able to convert them, but doesn't help the fact you have to still copy them manually to your devices, unless their an way to force calibre to be able to transfer the files that are outputted by this plugin that is, or wait for an new version of calibre that supports the transferring part, but then for that software to work for the icons you can't have calibre put them in subfolders like it likes to do for the rest of the files in azw3 and mobi format, since the app for generating icons can't handle subfolders, that would still be an problem for calibre.

Last edited by maximalmobi7; 10-05-2016 at 06:03 PM. Reason: added the fact the kfx output plugin can't get calibre to transfer the files yet correct to non subfolder since the icon app

had at least few Conversion Errors maybe like 1 so far from KEPUB to the KFX Format, also prefer it over the RB Format since that one made all ebooks black and white without color images, so now if

Basically KEPUB input to KFX output works great;with, only few Conversion Errors so far

correction in which I had one ebook that got an error from KEPUB input to KFX output, but still prefer it over RB format, I just have to work with them in different inputs to get the few that still get Conversion Errors fixed in any case.

also when using kepub as the input if you don't unselect strip kobo spans it removes the images with that option turned on I noiced that it loses the images in the ebook if it selects strip kobo spans

one fix for some Conversion Errors would be to use styling tab, with filter style information to select what style information you want completely removed like say if the problem is in floats or padding but I am guessing disabling from of the CSS may fix them from getting conversion errors on converting but I am guessing about that anyway it may or may not help. Below information from the ebook that failed to convert from KEPUB to AZW8 ext/ format kfx, so I just have to play with the input format until I found one that works, disabling the CSS in padding and floats and fonts didn't help with this ebook in any case.

Here text below from log of failed ebook if that helps again remember I replaced all kfx with azw8 and it works for most of my ebooks, but a few.

This error is occasionally produced by the Previewer. Unless your book is extremely large, something in it triggered a bug in the conversion process.

For future reference, it is considered polite to place the content of long dumps or logs within
...
tags so that they can be easily skipped over by those who do not want to read all of the details.

I doubt that anyone is working on this, including the developer of calibre. (He seems to be focused on the new content server for calibre 3.0 at the moment.)

I considered it a while ago, but decided that it is not of enough interest to me to be worth the spending time and effort on it.

Yes that one file is large compared to other ebooks but I had some large ebooks that converted just fine, so I think its something else causing the problem but at this point with the ones in calibre that don't convert I just have to play with them in different formats until their conversion works, that's the only way I can think of to get pass that problem.

Spoiler:
Sorry about that but I can't get spoiler tags to work, I tried to edit it with the tag at the start and end of the content of the error but I was not having any luck with it today.

I tried to use this spoiler tag, I must not be doing something right since its not hiding content, I don't write with tags or code that much so I am kind of out of practice plus they never really teach that in school that I can rememeber of, I took a programming class once, but it had more to do with flash interactive content but that was an college class a few years ago like more than 5 years since I took a class on code stuff but again that was on how to design a website in flash interactive web content, I don't remember exactly what the class was called for that. we used an flash adobe software title I think but again its been years since I played with tags or code whichever you want to call it, and again I was not able to get the spoiler tag to work I tried but must be doing something wrong, I tried it was
by itself and the two other tags you put into yours

I could not get either to work in that post above your reply to me.

it only seems to be hiding but not the content itself. So I don't no if I tried to use it wrong, I was having no luck pasting in the spoiler tags, I tried a few ways and the only thing I got it to hide was the words noparse in start and end of text.

Just put the word SPOILER in brackets at the beginning and /SPOILER in brackets at the end of the text you want to hide. (Ignore my use of NOPARSE, it was just a way to show those tags to you, but it apparently caused confusion.)

If you use the post editor on the web site you can just highlight the text you want on hide and then hit the "spoiler" icon. (That is the eye with a red X over it.) That is the easy way to do it.
