KUAL not loading

Hello guys,

today I got an software update (which is strange because I thought that I have blocked them). And now I can't launch KUAL anymore.

I already tried this script that worked for me often before, when KUAL does not wanted to launch with an error msg:
Quote:
#!/bin/sh
# mount system
mntroot rw
# remove bad kualbooklet jar
rm "/opt/amazon/ebook/booklet/KUALBooklet.jar"
# install my test jar
cp "/mnt/us/KUALBooklet.jar" "/opt/amazon/ebook/booklet/KUALBooklet.jar"
mntroot ro
After launching this script I do not get an error anymore. Just a Whitescreen.

Please ask questions about non-standard firmware in the dev forum, to where I’m now moving this.

Thanks .

Actual useful details would be nice .

See the KUAL FAQ, but I'm going to go out on a limb here that you'll probably want to reinstall the current hotfix, then the current KUAL patched Booklet.

Please provide enough information for us to guess at what your problem is.
Kindle model;
Use https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle_Serial_Numbers to determine what its name is as used here.
Kindle firmware version is now 5.11.1.1 or was that before its most recent update?
What firmware version was the Kindle running the last time KUAL was working properly?
You give a link to the directions you followed, but do not mention what KUAL package you where using. The one at the same link?
What is wrong with your using MrPI to install the package?
Why do you think you need to use your own scrip rather than trust the package build to have gotten things correct?
Even after being told to install the most recent "hotfix" package, you do not give us any hint as to if you actually followed that direction.
Etc ....

Ah, come on now, none of us can see over your shoulder or channel into your mind.
You must give enough detailed information for us to stand a chance of helping you fix whatever you have done to that Kindle.

Unfortunately I don't have any clue, what the version before was.

And yes I tried the package from the link I sent above. MRPI says the installation is successfull. But no "book link" is created on my home screen. Or do I have to install KUAL like normal and then install the hotfix?

From my understanding the most recent hotfix package was the one from the link correct? Yes I tried that see above.

It's not my own script I found it somewhere in this forum. Like I said before this is what helped me often when the KUAL link in my library stopped working (I think this sometimes happend after an update), because then it said something like: "KUAL application couldn't be started or something like that.", after running this script it worked again. What I just trying to say was that this script also not helped.

Your installing the wrong KUAL package.

The "Hotfix" is put in the visible, top level, of USB storage and then installed with either UYK or just a reboot.
You need to install a very recent "Hotfix" since earlier ones did not provide the ;log runme and ;log mrpi search bar commands.

There is a "Regular" booklet build and a "Special" booklet build for the installation of KUAL.
Perhaps either coplate or Niluje could say which one you need.
But if you try both, be certain to use any provided un-install after each attempted install. That should minimize the chance of two different *.jar files being present.

Note: the "Special" booklet build is special in the obfuscation Amazon used on the booklet interface.
The failure mode with running the wrong KUAL booklet build is a blank screen and no error message.
If they changed it again with 5.11.1.1, then we need another (different) special of the "Special" build.
Dealing with obfuscated Java is way above my paygrade. Somebody else will have to do that "fix".

Since the KT3 (and I suppose the KT4) are one of the Androdized Kindle models, they are probably among the first to receive special, new, "features" internally.

I'd double-check your sorting/filtering settings, because if you don't see a KUAL "book" and yet insist on saying the MRPI install was successful, that'd be the obvious answer, and one that's irrelevant to the KUAL variant being used.

Can't say more without MRPI logs, but at least that does look like the sensible KUAL variant to use.

Yes I have gone forward and double checked the sorting and filtering settings before.

I have tried it again to uninstall and install with this link again https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=304

But it is not working. How can I access the MRPI logs? And what do you mean with sensible KUAL variant?

Likely that you're not using the Kindlet (azw2) version which stopped working after 5.8.x.
