Broken screen?

Sadly, I dropped my Kobo Aura H2O from the height of a lounge chair. It fell onto the wooden leg of the chair. After the fall, the screen was frozen on the page I had been reading. Nothing looked amiss, until I started pushing the power button repeatedly. After that black vertical lines appeared on the right side of the screen. More frantic pushing of the screen and power button resulted in two blank boxes. The usual trouble shooting has not worked. The only odd thing I can see is a bit of a wonky line at the bottom right of the screen. Or maybe I'm just imagining it? Is this a broken screen? I'm so sad!

Sadly, yes the glass substrate of that screen is broken.

Thank you for confirming that.

I'm scared of this happening again with a new one, so had a look at cases. The ones I could see for sale at the shop here in Australia all seem to highlight the auto sleep/wake function and not so much how protective or sturdy the case is. Are there any recommendations for good cases for the Aura H20 version 2?

Did you have a case on the original? It doesn't sound like it was a very high drop. I've had e-readers drop off from the height of a bed or bed stand and be totally fine. Just bad luck, I guess.

No, I didn't have a case on it. I always put it into a soft felt slip case when I'm not using it, but because I was reading at the time no case. It was a very, very low fall, but very awkward. Not just a slip onto the carpet, but rather a bounce off the wooden leg of an Ikea Poang chair. Bad luck indeed!
