Keep in mind any reader of this age is going to have a questionable battery, life wise, even if the battery still works.

Being that you're in India, scratch the Nook off your list. No support for users outside the US & the reader itself devotes most of it's storage space for Nook books which you likely cannot buy being in India. It's not worth the aggravation or hassle.
Oh good god! Don't even consider buying something like that listing on eBay unless you like tossing your money away. Do you? I'd guess not. The guy is a new seller, 3 feedbacks using stock photos - RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN! |

Given prices and devices, I would suggest going for a Sony PRS-T2. You aren't tied to any store. You don't have to register it other then with Adobe. You don't have fragmented memory. Also, it uses ePub. So overall, it's a win-win.

I would argue that. You'll find lots of posts from people that love their Kobo Mini (or Glo, or Touch). Is it perfect and without any faults, no. However, for most users there aren't a lot of major dealbreaker issues with current firmware.

The OP asked about the Kobo WiFi.

Hitesh1, where can you buy from if buying new and not via ebay? Also when you rule out a small screen do you just mean the Trekstor Mini (with it's 4.3" screen), would the Kobo Mini or Sony PRS-350 (they have 5" screens, compared to the standard size of 6") be ok? The Kobo's do have a reputation for buggy firmware but it doesn't make them unusable, and plenty of people are happy enough with them. If you can get a cheap deal on a Kobo Touch for example, take it! The cheapest options new are the basic Kindle - 69$ (USD) @ Amazon, Kobo Mini £50 (GBP) @ WH Smith, or the Nook Simple Touch which has already been mentioned. You could also look at used or refurbished, you should be able to find things like the Kindle Touch, Kobo Touch & Sony PRS 650 on ebay for reasonable prices (though more than your original $30 budget!). Or a cheaper option would be the Kindle Keyboard You can get the Kindle Touch refurbished from Amazon via the UK website for £65. Sadly I don't see it on the Amazon.com. Sony Outlet UK did have refurbished PRS 350's for £50, but they are sold out. They do have the PRS T1 at £79. Can't see anything on the US site currently. Also in the UK Morgan Computers often have refurbished Sony Readers for sale, though sadly no 650 or 350s at the moment, although they do have the slightly older PRS 600 or PRS 300 for £40 & £30 respectively. They are still quite old though, just not as old as the PRS 505. Last edited by soulfuldog; 02-23-2013 at 06:40 AM. |

To the OP - you might want to have a read back through the most recent pages in this Goodreads thread:
"H E L P > E-Reader in India " http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...rder=a&page=11 On a very brief glance, it looks like there's a store in India called Croma that may stock the basic Kindle? Cromaretail.com? However the Kindle Wifi is listed at Rs 6999, which seems way too expensive according to google's currency converter. Have a closer look through that thread, maybe you'll get somewhere. |
