I don't see how any of the producers would gain that much from a shorter copyright term, whatever the technology. Sure, our culture would benefit, but nobody seems to argue for that much anymore. It's all about money. |

WHICH producers are you speaking of? The ORIGIONAL producers like Disney wouldn't benefit by loosing their perpetual monopoly on their material, but copyright wasn't established as a charity for businesses but for the public good. NEW producers, individuals, many of them, who could take the origional material and improve, change or add to it would benefit as well as the public who could now have many more and innovative products. Some reward from society such as providing a limited term of copyright for producers of origional material is in the public good (I care only for the public good, I have no interest in spending tax money to benefit individual producers unless such support also benefits the public) but they demand far more than is needed for such public good. They are like 5 year olds whining for you to buy them more and more treats. I understand why they want it but there is no reason for the government to give the brats everything they want. |

Looks like it won't even be discussed. Not only did the memo get taken down (for a rewrite to reflect multiple viewpoints, which hasn't happened, but the staffer that wrote the original memo has been sacked.
