How to access iPhone main memory
The advice in the latest Calibre update (7.53 1st April) explains the preferred method of sending books to the iPhone - but it carries no explanation of how Stanza is to access the iPhone's main memory.
Books exported to the iPhone from Calibre via iTunes and which go to the main memory, can be accessed by iBooks but not by Stanza. Does anyone know how to help? See Calibre 'What's New' notes release 7.53 http://calibre-ebook.com/whats-new See forum post for the method I mentioned - it goes into quite some detail. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=127883 and https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=118559 Any suggestions gratefully received - I'm sure there must be others out there who also need a solution to this problem. Those posts are specifically targetted at those intending to use iBooks as that is what thE books support in iTunes integrates with.
If you are using Stanza, then the eaiest way to get books into Stanza is using the Calibre Content server as described here in the Calibre User Guide, and do WiFi based transfers. There is no automated support for transferring books to Stanza via USB and iTunes, although it can be done manually for systems running iOS4 or later. Last edited by itimpi; 04-01-2011 at 07:25 PM. |

See the Calibre + iDevices FAQ, there is a link to information about transferring books to Stanza.

Thank you for that.
I am experienced in getting my books from Calibre to Stanza, thank you. I didn't spot that the documentation was specific to iBooks and Calibre. I believe my question is still valid in the sense that Main Memory of the iPhone is a valid location. Is this simply not available to Stanza? Last edited by Wyndham; 04-01-2011 at 07:51 PM. |

Not in the context that is meant on most other devices where the choice is between main memory or a plug-in card, and they are treated like USB disk drives to which files can be directly witten or read using standard file system calls.
iDevices do not work like that as applications cannot write directly to memory. The only way to get books into Stanza via iTunes and a USB cable is via the iTunes App File Transfer feature - and Calibre does not integrate with that. |
