Freeman, R Austin: Surprising Experiences of Mr Shuttlebury Cobb (1927); v1, 27 Apr 2
R Austin Freeman's famous Dr Thorndyke stories are not noted for humour, but Freeman could certainly write it. This short novel tells of the comical, if not farcical search for a possible apocryphal treasure hidden somewhere in a vacant manor house in Kent. Russian secret police, a dubious detective, and a group of Chicago gangsters have deep interests in the same house.
