New tablet, no detection
I've used several Android devices for years with no detection problems, but I am in the process of replacing my xGoDy G10H with an almost identical xGoDy v11.
However, no detection: the difference in devices is that in the new tablet you have to switch on 'connect USB mass storage' after plugging into the PC whereas the old one fired up automatically (though very slowly, as if reading each file individually - has been taking about 90 seconds). And no difference whether it's USB on first then boot Calibre, or start Calibre then plug in USB. There must be a simple answer, mustn't there? I've gone through the sequences in the old thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=118560 to no avail. EDIT: I've noticed that the new v11 tablet appears in 'my computer' as a 'proper' drive ( "devices with removable storage", volumn J) whilst the old GA10H appears as a 'portable device' (portable media player) In case it helps here's the debug log: calibre 2.55 embedded-python: True is64bit: False Windows-7-6.1.7601-SP1 Windows ('32bit', 'WindowsPE') 32bit process running on 64bit windows ('Windows', '7', '6.1.7601') Python 2.7.9 Windows: ('7', '6.1.7601', 'SP1', 'Multiprocessor Free') Successfully initialized third party plugins: DeDRM USB devices on system: (USBDevice(vendor_id=None product_id=None bcd=None devid=usb\root_hub20&vid8086&pid1e2d&rev0004 devinst=3088), USBDevice(vendor_id=None product_id=None bcd=None devid=usb\root_hub20&vid8086&pid1e26&rev0004 devinst=3148), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x45e product_id=0xe1 bcd=0x7 devid=usb\vid_045e&pid_00e1&rev_0007 devinst=3208), USBDevice(vendor_id=0xbda product_id=0x158 bcd=0x5888 devid=usb\vid_0bda&pid_0158&rev_5888 devinst=3288), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x1058 product_id=0x1078 bcd=0x1065 devid=usb\vid_1058&pid_1078&rev_1065 devinst=3372), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x18a5 product_id=0x237 bcd=0x300 devid=usb\vid_18a5&pid_0237&rev_0300 devinst=3472), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x1f3a product_id=0x1000 bcd=0x233 devid=usb\vid_1f3a&pid_1000&rev_0233 devinst=3548), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x413c product_id=0x2111 bcd=0x178 devid=usb\vid_413c&pid_2111&rev_0178 devinst=3640), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x413c product_id=0x2111 bcd=0x178 devid=usb\vid_413c&pid_2111&rev_0178&mi_00 devinst=3720), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x413c product_id=0x2111 bcd=0x178 devid=usb\vid_413c&pid_2111&rev_0178&mi_01 devinst=3816), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x8087 product_id=0x24 bcd=0x0 devid=usb\vid_8087&pid_0024&rev_0000 devinst=3912), USBDevice(vendor_id=0x8087 product_id=0x24 bcd=0x0 devid=usb\vid_8087&pid_0024&rev_0000 devinst=3992)) No disabled plugins Looking for devices of type: MTP_DEVICE List of WPD PNP ids: [u'\\\\?\\wpdbusenumroot#umb#2&37c186b&0&storage#vo lume#_??_usbstor#disk&ven_usb_2.0&prod_usb_flash_d river&rev_0100#299503502149ffffcf87&2##{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}', u'\\\\?\\wpdbusenumroot#umb#2&37c186b&0&storage#vo lume#_??_usbstor#disk&ven_generic-&prod_multi-card&rev_1.00#20071114173400000&0##{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}', u'\\\\?\\wpdbusenumroot#umb#2&37c186b&0&storage#vo lume#_??_usbstor#disk&ven_usb_2.0&prod_usb_flash_d river&rev_0100#299503502149ffffcf87&1##{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}', u'\\\\?\\wpdbusenumroot#umb#2&37c186b&0&storage#vo lume#_??_usbstor#disk&ven_usb_2.0&prod_usb_flash_d river&rev_0100#299503502149ffffcf87&0##{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}'] No suitable MTP devices found Looking for devices of type: SMART_DEVICE_APP All IP addresses {'{16D73F48-A47C-45AD-B8BB-D708E32F15BC}': [{'addr': '169.254.218.130'}], '{43C86B6B-1762-4696-BA81-04390F832E90}': [{'broadcast': '192.168.0.255', 'addr': '192.168.0.3', 'netmask': '255.255.255.0'}], '{358678E2-9725-4E22-934A-0F86EAAEC398}': [{'broadcast': '192.168.0.255', 'addr': '192.168.0.2', 'netmask': '255.255.255.0'}], '{846EE342-7039-11DE-9D20-806E6F6E6963}': [{'broadcast': '127.255.255.255', 'addr': '127.0.0.1', 'netmask': '255.0.0.0'}]} No device is connected Looking for devices... Just put your tablet in MTP (Media Transfer) mode in the tablet's settings and it will be detected automatically.

EDIT - Thanks once again Kovid. I tried using the 'search' option (for MTP) in settings and it sent me there straightaway! Well hidden though on this device. Tested and found to be working: thanks again for speedy and total solution (as per usual with your good self..... ). |

No device detected
I have the Nexus 6 and have been researching the MTPfailure on Xubuntu 16.04 for about 10 days.
I have Calibre 2.6 After Marshmallow update on my Nexus I find that "Charge Only" is the default setting when USB is connected. This is documented in the release notes. In order to activate MTP it is necessary to tap the Build Number 7 times. I kid you not. I have followed instructions on Stack Exchange and I cannot discover the Nexus on USB. Therefore cannot transfer books over USB. My phone also do not have removable SD cards to get around the dastardly restrictions of MTP. Does Calibre have a recognized alternative for side-loading-- send books to the cloud, download to phone over wireless? Last edited by Thalia Helikon; 06-26-2016 at 07:31 PM. Thank you for remind me about the Calibre Companion Android app and the Wireless Content Server. What an elegant solution!
