Clara HD seems to be out of stock everywhere. Does this mean a new Kobo release is likely soon?

Define "everywhere" - Kobo Australia still lists them as in stock, as does Kobo NZ, where Google also says there are retailers stocking them. Kobo UK says "due to COVID-19 we can't ship to the UK, please buy from the following retailers". Kobo Italia also still has them listed for sale.

Where is it that you live?

Chapters in Canada has the Clara HD. The will ship to Canada and the US. I bought my Kobo from there.

But, if you are in the US, I suggest you get the Kobo Libra H2O from Walmart. The price is not that much more for a better Kobo.

To address your actual question, no, no new Kobo hardware release is likely soon. They'd need to file FCC paperwork in the US for new releases, and that information is publicly available. They haven't filed any.

I'm in the UK.
It's correct that KOBO nolonger deliver because of COVID, but the 3 authorised suppliers also have problems, 2 have no stock, centrally or in store, and the third has in stock in a few stores. Tee Clara HD was reduced in price for a few days in December

Argos has it. You can do Click and Collect.

Curry's has it for pickup at a collection point.
