If it is placed in the first message in the thread, calibre will automatically offer it as an update or you can simply download it from the link in the first message. I seem to remember that it takes about 30 minutes from when the first message is updated to when calibre offers the update.

After using the latest version successfully with about 20 books I have got the following error with two books:

calibre, version 5.1.0
ERROR: Modify ePub failed: No ePub files were updated

Modify ePubs version (1, 6, 0)
Logfile for book ID 7579 (De slag in het Kralingse Bos / Vermeulen, Esther)

Nothing wrong with Modify ePub. The problem is that the DeDRM plugin does not work with Calibre 5.x. Your ePub still has DRM. You will have to reinstall Calibre 4.23 in order to remove DRM.

This appears to be yet another incompatibility caused by the switch to calibre 5/Python 3. I think I can fix it but it would help a lot if you could send me a book that fails so I can test the fix. Please send the book to calibre-bugs-mod [at] charleshaley [dot] org (make the replacements.

Did you not notice that one of the lines in the error output says that the eBook has DRM?

It appears that there is a bug in the part of the plugin that checks whether or not an EPUB is encrypted. The plugin is failing while trying to determine the encryption type.

This version might fix the problem. I don't have any books with adobe obfuscation to test it.

I have tested version 1.6.1 The 2 books that failed before give no error anymore.

The problem was caused by the presence of a file with a name ending in "encryption.xml". The plugin checks that file to see how encryption is used. It allows what I think is font obfuscation. It gives up on anything else.

If the plugin gives up then you should see messages in the log of the form "ERROR - cannot [do some operation] in DRM encrypted book'

You are right. There is a file encription.xml in these 2 books although the books are not encripted.

Using Sigil, I was able to obfuscate embedded fonts and test the plugin. 1.6.1 did not generate an error.

Fantastic plugin! One feature I'd find fantastically useful:

The ability to bulk-compress. Right now, the reader portion of the app includes under tools the ability to compress images either losslessly or lossy. The latter often can cut larger books (and image-intensive kids or textbooks) by 95%+ in size while keeping the images perfectly acceptable at tablet size. I generally use a 40 or 50 setting and can pretty reliably cut at least 75% off the size of cookbooks even. That said, it's incredibly time-consuming to do this over and over when you have 100+ books to compress. Being able to compress directly from Calibre, without having to open every single book individually, run the tool, and save each book ... that would be a dream!
