Williams, Margery: The Thing in the Woods. v1. 28 Feb 2021

What a surprise!

From the author of the children’s classic The Velveteen Rabbit, the novel that inspired H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dunwich Horror! A werewolfian tale set in rural Pennsylvania, with a deft and subtle escalation of tension.

Caveat: First published in 1913, and does contain some racially derogatory terms and stereotypes.

===========
Margery Williams Bianco was an English-American author, primarily of popular children’s books. A professional writer from the age of nineteen, she achieved lasting fame at forty-one with the 1922 publication of her first children’s book, the classic that is her best-known work, The Velveteen Rabbit.
The Thing in the Woods is her only horror story. Although she wrote some books for adults, she is best remembered for her writings for children and teens.
