If it's actually possible to create a new thread in a way that still supports updating existing installations then that may indeed be the best option. The current thread is already very long anyway. I'll look into that next week.

I just had a quick look at the code and the decision for whether to show a dialog or just a notification is dependent on whether you have enabled the "Prompt to store any changes" option. Disabling that should get rid of the dialog. If people think that it should always just be a notification then that would be an easy change.

Prompt to store any changes, not prompt not to store any changes. I just don't want any sort of notification. No notification means there's nothing to update. The dialog to show there's something to update is enough.

Hi! I tried to install your version, but I got an error when storing Reading Positions:

calibre, version 7.22.0
ERROR: Unhandled exception: <b>ValueError</b>:too many values to unpack (expected 4)

I'm running calibre 7.22 (not the latest version, but I can update, if you think that may the reason of the error).


PS: And thank you for your effort! KoboUtilities is one of the things I love the most about Kobo-Calibre integration

Thanks for giving it a try! Your version should definitely work, so that's clearly a bug.

Unfortunately there is some context missing that makes it difficult to track down the bug. Could you please follow these steps:

• Start Calibre
• Right-click the preferences icon and select the option "Restart in debug mode"
• After the restart you should see a dialog box telling you where the debug log file is kept. Calibre should automatically open the file after quitting again, but just in case it would be good to make a note of the location.
• Reproduce the bug
• Quit Calibre so that the log file gets opened
• Paste the log file somewhere (it will probably be too long to paste it into a post here)

@Majutsushi when you are fixing the reported bug, can you also remove the dialog that tells me I have no books with new readings positions? Thanks.

Thanks for the reports. Here is a new version with the following changes:

• Fixed the exception reported above. I missed a few calls in the reading position dialog since I haven't used it myself, and the way the dialog code works the call sites didn't show up for me in a search for callers of the function I changed for the additional columns.
• Fixed the issue that @ownedbycats reported, where unchecking a book in the reading position dialog didn't work.
• There is now no dialog popup if there are no reading position changes, even if you have enabled the "Prompt for changes" option.

I hope this takes care of the important issues that are relevant for a new release.

Is there a way or would it be possible to store those data also for the other books on the device?

Did you try restore reading bookmark? I havent enabled the feature myself.

While I don't see it often, yeah I def want to get prompted to save new positions, but wouldn't mind if when there weren't any it just notified me and didn't halt the app with a dialogue.

Yep, I tried, but no data was retrieved from my Kobo.
I also changed the last reading time stored on Calibre to run the store of the data for books whose data on Calibre is earlier than the one on the device, and the data got updated correctly for the "old" columns, while reading time column remained empty

What you can do is filter by reading and go in and read at least one page of every book. Then you'll get their reading positions added to your library. You do not need the reading positions of books you've not yet read.
