Nook Data Connectivity Problem

I haven't been able to download any books from [dodgy web site full of malware] for past several weeks. Each time I click on the download from another link, I get error message, Unable to establish a secure connection. Can anyone help me with this?

[Edited by mod: Name of dodgy web site edited out. I got pages of pop-up malware when I checked it out.]

What are you using to download from [dodgy website]? When I did a secure connection to their site, it used TLS 1.2 and all seemed to be okay. But when I clicked on a download button, I was informed that tusfiles.com:443 used an invalid certificate though the popup had an option to continue. After two more invalid certificate warnings, the epub downloaded. This was using a Kobo KA1 for the connection though I think the lastest firmware update for Nooks included TLS 1.2 as part of allowing continued connections to B&N. I got similar results from browsers on my PC with multiple complaints about invalid certificates on the download though oddly enough connecting directly to https://tusfiles.com came up with a Comodo certificate that expires in May, 2020.

Web site name edited out.

Perhaps I visited a different site, but the top google hit using that name as a search term brought up an extremely dodgy web site that plastered my screen with pop-up windows.

One additional note on the [website redacted] site is that while the ebook I downloaded on my first visit was a freebie at multiple sites, when I checked back today, 5 out of 6 ebooks I looked at were not free nor were they public domain.
