Unmounting external memory to save batteries??
Will unmounting the CF or SD actually stop power draw and increase battery life?? Or do you have to physically remove the cards??
Are there some other process you need to stop as well? thanks, |

I think it is very unlikely that unmounting the devices is going to make, much of a difference in the amount of power consumption, I don't believe this really causes a change in the hardware state, though I am not too sure on the behaviour of the linux kernel to state for certain.
Additionally even if you are not using the card and leave it in place, the card itself is not going to use much power, probably consumes only tiny amounts of power (so little you likely wouldn't notice). Flash memory isn't like RAM, what causes flash memory to use noteable amounts of power is when the flash memory changes memory cells, due to the high voltage required to store electrons (or remove them). This could cause excess power consumption if the iliad is changing the state of the memory card, even when it really isn't in use. I don't suspect this is happening though. |
