Google Play, ADE and IO Error on Network Request.

I've run into a strange problem. It's the first time I'm buying a DRM ebook from Google Play. I can download the ascm file, but as soon as it's opened in ADE I get this error (URL edited)

IO Error on Network Request.
Please check your network connection and try again.

Network Path:
https://books.google.co.za/books/dow...cs4_book_bytes

Event Detail:
Error #2038
--- end ---

Google support can't seem to find a solution and ended up giving me a refund.

I'm using ADE 1.72 as far as I can tell. Downloads from Kobo and other sites work fine.

The problem is on your end. What you need to do is remove ADE 1.72 and install ADE 2.0.1. You cannot use ADE 1.72 to download from Google or Overdrive. You have to have at least ADE 2.0.1 and that's the recommended version.

Windows: http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/..._Installer.exe
OS X: http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/..._Installer.dmg

If you are using Linux, to get ADE 2.0.1 to work is a rather convoluted process.

Thanks. That seems to have done the trick.

Is there a way to check the DRM status of an ePub file which has not been added to the library (an ePub run through Calibre to "free" the book). Just want to make sure everything is working correctly.

Just load the ePub with DRM (you know because you got a .acsm file) into Calibre and then use the viewer to check if the DRM is removed. The viewer will view if the DRM has been removed.

Yes, figured that out after the fact. ADE had a handy Item info bar that showed the DRM options even for external ePub which I miss. Thought there might be another way to access it.

Glad to say that everything seems to work.
