fbreader on cybook 3?

How easy would it to have fbreader reading software on cybook 3?

I'm not talking about fb2 format (which is fbreader's own brand of xml) but the software itself.

Could an external developer come up with a firmware hack to do that. Or would you basically have to eliminate the cybook software on the device to accomplish that?

This has been asked on FBReader's google group, look for the thread "Does FBReader support Nuut or Cybook ebook devices?". The generic answer is that first there has to be a SDK, and single-purpose devices don't typically have one (even if they are based on Linux).

The option of wiping Bookeen's software are starting over is interesting. It would be a lot of work, but Bookeen will presumably have to make its Linux software available to everyone - so it might be possible. The same approach should be possible on the Sony.

I'm sure the Bookeen people are looking at incorporating the FB2 format into the list of supported ebooks. And I suppose one could wipe out the current reader software and create a version of FBReader for it. I'd say that it would probably require porting Nano-X and Nano-GTK over to the Bookeen device - not impossible as these are *very* small footprint - and then compiling a version of FBReader under these libraries. One thing you have to remember is that there's no touchscreen or keyboard/mouse on the device, so every function would have to be accessed using the Compass, the volume control buttons and the four function buttons on the left edge. Not impossible, but one factor for the port.
