Touch Loading Japanese Books onto Kobo Touch when in the UK

Hi,

My Japanese wife who lives in the UK wishes to buy and load Japanese e-books onto her Kobo Touch. She still has a Japanese credit card and her parent's address in Japan she could use.

1) Which site should she use, if you wish to reply in Japanese that is fine as she will be able to read it.

2) Do you need to change your IP address to make it appear you are in Japan?

3) Do you know if there are any sites where you can download free Japanese books, similar to sites we have in the UK?

Here's a thread by someone who bought their Kobo in Japan and wanted to use it in English elsewhere... It appears to answer several of your questions (in the inverse but it does give insight as to how the Japanese site works):

1- use the Rakuten Japan site to register to Rakuten and then register the device with Japanese credentials
2- yes you need to change the IP address so you appear to be in Japan
3- I would guess that Rakuten may have some on their site similar to Kobo on theirs?

Wow, the thread is quite old, but I think you can now buy books from wherever you're (regardless of your IP address), granted you registered with a Japanese address. At least in big stores like Amazon, and at least I never had any problem with it before.
