Question on loading apps

Hi folks,
I am debating buying a Sony PRS-t1 or 350. As i see that the android is rooted. I was wondering if apps can be loaded on the device. In particular i am looking for mantano lite pdf reader.

I like this program on my regular lcd tablets.

javamaan.

PS: i have never used a e-ink reader, hence i dont know what is possible/impossible.

At the moment rooting is easy, but some apps are not supported; including, unfortunately, Mantano and Aldiko.

Porkupan said something about a folder needed for some security stuff that didn't exist, and I think that maybe this could be the problem (Mantano and Aldiko support DRM, DRM needs encryption, this is my cue).

But right now I'm very happy with Sony's default interface, I replaced the default Reader app with CoolReader (FbReader works fine too), and installed french dictionaries (which wasn't possible in the default Sony firmware).

So far, so good, and thanks Porkupan !

I'm using FBreader with my rooted T1. It works like a charm. I found that Coolreader's turning page speed is a quite slower and there is a square appears on each touching.

I too preferred FbReader to CoolReader, although the lack of physical button support was a bit of a nuisance.

But now I installed the latest CoolReader : 3.0.52-3 available from here, there is even a newer version now, this guy is faaaaaaast !

And this new version is faster, better, stronger

how about ezpdf? I mainly want to read pdf files.

I hear lots of complaints on PRS-T1, is it due to user error?

What's so bad with the included pdf reader btw?

The only flaw I see is missing hyphenation / justification for PDF reflow....

But what I really like is auto-crop and the special 2-column or 3-column zoom modes. The later makes reading scientific articles a charm!! No need to pinch zoom / scroll the page, it simply divides the page in 4 or 6 sub-pages which can be flipped with ease...

Does the CoolReader also do this? (2-/3-Column)

By the way, do you use CoolReader?

cool reader does not display pdf

Sometimes, I do use cool reader for epub but I don't like it's way of navigating folders... The only benefit for cool reader is hyphenation. On the other hand, it does not support the integrated sony dictionary.

So, I stick with sony reader most of the time...
