There can be entirely valid reasons to buy a new reader even if one's existing one still works fine. Each of my reader purchases over the last few years: Kindle Touch -> Kindle PW1 -> Kindle PW2 -> Kindle Voyage has been a significant improvement over its predecessor. For someone whose main hobby is reading, these are pretty cheap devices in the overall scheme of things, and I find that used devices sell for remarkably high prices.

I don't see any difference except in some screen clarity. Most have extra stuff you neither want nor need, none use an external card, and none have a replaceable battery.
I like the page turn buttons on the old Nook, the separate keyboard, and I like my card There is a difference in OS. Android lets me have my nature guides that are apps along with traditional books. Using an old reader is the equivalent of buying used books. As long as the book can be read, I'm OK. I prefer to buy print books used. There's other things I want and can use the $ for. |

Screen clarity for me is the single most important feature of any reading device: it's core to the fundamental use of the device. The single biggest improvement we've seen in readers over the last few years is, for me, the introduction of frontlit screens; they've transformed the ease of reading in poor light.

The e-readers are mostly OK. Don't care if it has a light or not. The screen is FLAT and no glare. Even the old greenish colored Nook is preferable to the Acer or my Motorola phone.
That's the biggest drawback on a tablet. The reflective screen. |

You are welcome Wherever.
They are hiding the device inside a cover inside another cover but it looks to me more like a Voyage than a Paperwhite. Can anyone read the writing on the menus on the bottom of the device at the 33 second mark? |

New high-range Kindle coming out, $50 off the Voyage. How wrong can you be?

bluen, I couldn't read the writing either, perhaps someone might be able to. Your right they are trying to hide what ever it is. It does look more like a Voyage. It would be nice if they were releasing this model as the new device coming out next week. I would get one

Thanks, the vid I linked to on the front page of liquavista was uploaded to youtube in Nov 2013, 6 months after amazon bought them in May 2013.
So could be the first thing Amazon put out was the black and white Voyage in 2014, a year and a half after the acquisition. Then they use the same model but include the liquavista technology now, after technology improvements that allow faster better display (and some blog is saying the ability to recharge using a cover, which would make it closer to battery life of current kindles than a tablet.). That way it could compete with a tablet for color reading, interactive video inside a book. I haven't seen the new harry potter iBook versions but apparently they include video as well. |

I really, really doubt that we're going to see a Liquavista device, but we'll soon know.
