Ja, auch mache Inhaber des Literaturnobelpreise kann man getrost vergessen, aber Luigi Pirandello (1867-1936) gehört nicht zu ihnen, obwohl ihm dieses traurige Schicksal außerhalb Italiens widerfahren ist.

In den Wandlungen des Mattia Pascal geht es um einen Mann, der teils durch eigene Schuld unter erdrückenden Umständen lebt. Doch dann wird er für tot erklärt und kann ein ganz neues Leben beginnen ...

Hier in der Übersetzung von Edgar Wiegand aus dem Jahr 1925. Und mit ein bisschen Buchschmuck.

Die Erzählweise erinnert mich stark an Salman Rushdie.
