0.8.3 Not Communicating with Storage Card A?
I have been using Calibre to send books to my micro SD card via the PocketBook 360 reader into which it is inserted. Since the 0.8.2 update, I've not been able to send books to my SD card anymore; downloading the 0.8.3 version did not solve the problem.
Calibre senses the device and the card just fine, but when I send to the card, the job times out saying that there was an error communicating with the device. (Calibre can apparently send to the actual e-reader just fine.) The error I get is: calibre, version 0.8.3 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device [Error 31] A device attached to the system is not functioning: 'M:\\fiction (horror and sci-fi)\\review (unreviewed)' Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 62, in run File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 364, in _upload_books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\usbms\driver.py", line 242, in upload_books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\usbms\device.py", line 972, in create_upload_path File "os.py", line 157, in makedirs WindowsError: [Error 31] A device attached to the system is not functioning: 'M:\\fiction (horror and sci-fi)\\review (unreviewed)' I'm going to try to reformat the card (although it's always worked fine before), but has anyone else had this problem? Thanks. |

Looking at the error it appears to be at the Windows level. As it not unusual for the file system to get corrupted then reformatting the SD card sounds like a good plan. The alternative would be to run a Windows level file system check/repair if you wanted to first try something that might avoid losing the current SD card contents.

I don't mind losing the SD card, but I can't seem to reformat it. I've tried several times, and the Quick Format just plain won't work, and the Full Format ground out all night long and then we finally just stopped it because it had obviously hung up.
I emptied the card of all my books BEFORE all the formatting attempts, but the books keep popping back into existence on the card which is, I think, terribly odd. The card always behaved fine until last night - I'm not sure how to fix this. Trying to sync with Calibre again so I can at least get the books OFF the SD card before trying again. This is very odd. Calibre says: calibre, version 0.8.3 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device [Errno 13] Permission denied Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 62, in run File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 299, in _books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\usbms\driver.py", line 222, in books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\usbms\driver.py", line 366, in sync_booklists File "site-packages\calibre\devices\usbms\driver.py", line 364, in write_prefix File "site-packages\calibre\ebooks\metadata\book\json_codec.p y", line 79, in encode_to_file IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied Last edited by anamardoll; 06-02-2011 at 07:55 AM. |

If you cannot reformat the SD card then it is almost certainly faulty.

Micro SD card. No slider.
I think the SD card is bricked, but I'm a little frustrated that it behaved perfectly all day until Calibre booted up and started trying to read the card for existing books. I suspect that something occurred at that point to brick the card. Is there somewhere in the preferences where I can keep Calibre from scanning my reader + card when I plug them in? I really do NOT want to sync Calibre with my device, nor do I care to know which of my 700+ books are on the device according to Calibre. I want to plug in the device, send a specific book to it, and be done - the Calibre "talk to device to see what books are on there so it can make little green check marks" step takes forever right now and I want to turn it off. Sorry if this sounds whiny, I'm just distressed about my 32GB $60 card getting bricked over this... and I would like to avoid this happening to the replacement. |
