assistance in making the eBooks display properly

I hope to find some help here. My friend had his book created in pdf. format.. now we really would like to convert this book into an e-book. Of course when we try to simply convert the pdf to FB2 or MOBI and/or EPUB (with the basic available tools), the book is not displayed properly. Can anyone offer guidelines and/or support with the book. Thank you very much in advance for an assistance.

You say your friend had his book created in PDF, does he still have the original file that was used to create the PDF (Word doc or whatever it was)? That would generally be a better starting point than a PDF. It would probably also help to know if this is a regular fiction or innear non-fiction book that lends itself to reflowable formats or if it was originally done as a PDF because it's better suited to a fixed format.
