Lightbulb Color Nook versus Non-Color Kindle

Apart from viewing book covers (which can be done on Amazon), and magazines, I don't see the advantage of color over non-color on a reader. Reading is done in black and white.

The Nook Color also has an excellent, high resolution screen and plays videos amazingly well. Color is essential for that. But what does this have to do with free books, the subject of this thread?

LOL! I thought I was the only one wondering about that. How about a free book for your nook, color or not:

James Andrus has released a new book, The Perfect Prey ($4.76 Kindle), and, to promote it, Kensington Books has once again made The Perfect Woman ($4.39 Kindle) available for free, this time on the Sony platform (alone, so far). This was free on Sony and from B&N last April and for the Kindle last December. While it's possible that it will end up free once again everywhere, you may want to grab the EPUB at Sony, just in case, if you missed it (or pick up the sequel, while it's bargain priced, if you already have this one).

Book Description
One Man's Obsession. . .

Pharmacy clerk William Dremmel is hooked--on drugging pretty young women and lulling them into slow, blissfully quiet deaths. Then he packs his victims in luggage--a nod to the cops that he works alone. Dremmel's no fool, he's also a college professor. He just likes using his intellect for darker purposes. . ..

Is Another Man's Anguish. . .

Haunted by his own daughter's unsolved disappearance, Detective John Stallings is committed to finding runaways and busting their abductors. When a series of girls is found dead and stuffed into duffle bags, he's consumed with capturing "The Bagman"--at the risk of his marriage, his career, and possibly his tough-as-nails partner, Patty Levine. . .

And Neither Intends To Give Up

As The Bagman grows more brazen in his crimes, the clues line up. But when he draws terrifyingly close to Patty, Stallings is determined to play by his own rules--and they won't be pretty--or quiet. . .

Koland isn't selling a Kobo herself. Instead, she is posting a link to her blog (well known to posters here), which includes a recent post on a discount on the Kobo ereaders at Borders.

As you might notice from this thread, Koland is a frequent poster who shares lots of ebook bargains with readers here. Sometimes the links go directly to Amazon, Sony, or B&N, and sometimes they go to Books on the Knob instead. Yes, the blog does have ads and participates in affiliate programs . If you consider that "advertising on this forum"... well, whatever. But I can live with it, and I don't mind buying stuff through affiliate links to support websites or blogs that I like.

Admit One: My Life in Film ($7.99 Kindle), by Emmett James, is free in the Sony ebookstore.

Book Description
Set in Croydon, South London, in the 1980s, Admit One details how self-deprecating writer Emmett James escaped from the pains of adolescence by going to the cinema. Through wry wit and observation, the writer reflects, obsesses, and rages about film and its correlation to our pasts. Life soon imitates art, and the narrator finds that his true calling is in transcendence from one side of the screen to the other. He decides to leave England for the only place where he can realize his dream of becoming an actor--Hollywood.

We follow the narrator on his numerous adventures: as he jumps from forgery to pornography to crashing the Academy Awards under the alias of a nominated writer. All the while, the films that inspired each tale contextualize this humorous collection of stories. The narrator ultimately provides a unique insight into the fascinating industry of film, eventually himself stumbling into the biggest box-office grossing film of all time

The Nook Rechargeable Battery Kit ($29.95 B&N), is on sale in Best Buy stores (but not online) for $9.95.

Free Books:

A Child al Confino, by Eric Lamet, is now free for US and UK Kindle customers, as well as at B&N and in the iBooks store. Just saw a note that this is free as part of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, so it may only be free today.

Book Description
Eric Lamet was only seven years old when the Nazis invaded Vienna—and changed his life and the lives of all European Jews forever. Five days after Hitler marched in, Eric Lamet and his parents fled for their lives. Unable to remain together, the family split—he and his mother hid out in Italy, while his father returned to his native Poland and an even darker fate.

In this remarkable feat of memory and imagination, Lamet recreates the Italy he knew from the perspective of the scared and lonely child he once was. We not only see the hardships and terrors faced by foreign Jews in Fascist Italy, but also the friends Eric makes and his mother's valiant efforts to make a home for him.

In a style as original as his story, the author vividly recalls a terrible time yet imbues his recollections with humor, humanity, and wit. With a rare compassion toward friend and foe alike, little Eric Lamet shows us that there is light to be found in the darkest places—and that we should remember the good as well as the bad.

Shakespeare in an Hour ($9.99 paperback), by Christopher Baker, a part of the Playwrights in an Hour series, is free once again at B&N (still no listing for the Kindle).

Book Description
In 1587, when William Shakespeare was twenty-three, the acting troupe Queen's Men played in his hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon with one player short. Shakespeare's childhood fascination with theater suddenly found a perfect outlet — he joined the Queen's Men and replaced the missing actor. Shortly thereafter young William traveled to London in pursuit of an acting career. But acting soon gave way to an even more glorious adventure when Shakespeare realized that he might have a talent for writing plays.

Setting the playwright in context to his personal life, social, historical and political events, other writers of influence, and more, you will quickly gain a deep understanding of Shakespeare and the plays he wrote. Read Shakespeare in an Hour and experience his plays like never before. Know the playwright, love the play!

The book features:

* Shakespeare in an Hour, the main essay of the book
* Shakespeare In a Minute, a snapshot chronology
* A complete listing of Shakespeare's work
* A list of Shakespeare's contemporaries in all fields
* Excerpts from Shakespeare's significant works
* An extensive bibliography grouped according to type of reader
* An index of the main essay.

Playwrights in an Hour is a series devoted to the most produced and studied playwrights in the English language, from the Greek masters to contemporary writers, and written by leading authorities in the field. Each short book places the playwright and his or her work in historical, social, and literary context.

You are welcome. Only one so far today, this one for kids;

Stick Dog Wants a Hamburger ($1.99 Kindle), by Tom Watson, the first in the illustrated children's series from publisher BookBaby, is free in the B&N & Sony stores and on iBooks.

Book Description
Stick Dog and his four friends - Stripes, Mutt, Poo-Poo and Karen - will do anything to steal some sweet-smelling hamburgers from a family at Picasso Park. Their plans to do so are both devious and wacky. Illustrated with bold pastels, this story breaks the conventions of the traditional picture book: The narrative is conversational, the illustrations are loud and accessible and the story is longer (about 6,000 words) and aimed at slightly older readers of seven and up. Parents who read aloud will enjoy the story - and the laughs. Priced low so more people can discover Stick Dog and his buddies.
