Tolino version 6 : no USB connectivity

We are not able to see the Tolino 6 via USB, neither on a Windows PC nor on a Mac. No external drive is being shown on the PC or Mac. We tried two different USB A to USB C cables. We blew any residual dust out of the slot. Charging the Tolino 6 via the USB type C slot does however work. Also other USB drives become visible and accessible on the PC and Mac, for instance a USB Attached SCSI (UAS) mass storage device attached to the PC.

On the reader, according to the manual (https://mytolino.com/wp-content/uplo...al_vision6.pdf) a USB icon should appear "on the left of the status bar", but it does not.

This is the first time we try using USB connectivity to this device. The Tolino is not rooted or anything.

Any prerequisite configuration on the Tolino which we may be missing? Any idea how to fix this?

The new Tolinos are based on Android 8.1 and the devices are not registered as drives.
The USB connection on the Vision 6 must be set to MTP - then it will be recognized as a device on the PC
