General question about attaching plugin zip files

I'm about to release a new version of my 'TTS to MP3' plugin. The new version will only run on calibre v5.4 and above and I've set the plugin's minimum_calibre_version accordingly.

Existing users of 'TTS to MP3' running a calibre version <v5.4 should be OK because they won't be offered the upgrade. But I would like to attach the older version of the plugin zip somewhere in the main thread for new users to find (and install manually) if they want it.

My question is, am I right in thinking that post #1 of a plugin's main thread should only ever contain a single zip file, i.e. the latest version? Or can I store 2 zips in there without upsetting calibre's automated plugin update system?

When you create a new plugin, PM an active calibre moderator to have it included in this list. Note that you must send us all of the information necessary to create the index entry in particular if it is a new plugin. The easiest way is to use the Index Entry Sample substituting the values as appropriate. Read the following information for more details on what they mean.

It would also make less work for us if you include all other information required to be changed or added as per the plugins below.

Ensure the plugin file is attached to the first post of your thread, and that it has a .zip extension. Do not attach multiple zip files to that post, or there is a risk of automated installation failure.

To add version history to your post, place a heading containing the exact text of Version History followed by a SPOILER containing your actual version history text. You can nest the spoiler tag within an INDENT tag if you wish.
But that dates from when only the plugins listed in that "Index of plugins" thread where picked up. I assume, but do not know for sure that it still applies.

I will say that it would be handy if we could keep a few older versions in the first post.

Since you have access to the second post, you could attach them to that?

No, you can have only a single zip file in the first post. use the second ost if you have access to it, or just make a new post with the older version and add a link to it in the first post.

Oh, yes, I know that. It's what I plan to do if multiple zips in post #1 is still a no-no.

OK. Thanks for the confirmation. I'll update posts #1/#2 accordingly.

Would it be possible to update the plugin system so it can deliver the version of the plugin that works for that version of Calibre? So if someone wanted this plugin but was running 4.23, then the version that's comparable will be downloaded. There are a lot of people who do not use MR and have no idea about the plugin threads and would not be looking for the old version.
