EPUB images different from Title
Hi all,
This is driving me nuts and I was wondering if anyone had experienced this/discovered a fix. I tried searching through the forum but maybe my keywords are matching up but I can't really find anything substantial. Anyway, onwards to the problem. So originally, everything was fine. Then, as of late, the epub images in my Kobo Glo don't match their corresponding titles. They match other books. The EPUB books are located in a microsd card (which I've formatted time and again). I don't want to put it into the main drive just because. I've tried resetting the Kobo Glo to no avail. Latest firmware. I don't know if I messed things up but I also tried deleting all the files in the image folder of the Kobo Glo. Oh, and I sideload the books (through Windows explorer) and not Calibre. HELP? Thanks. A little explanation of cover handling in current Kobo firmware.
- Cover images for kepubs are stored in .kobo/images. They are downloaded from the Kobo server. Deleting them will probably leave you with a default cover for those books. - Cover images for sideloaded books in the main memory are also stored in .kobo/images. They are generated by the device the first time they are needed. Deleting them will mean they get generated the next time the cover is needed. The cover image is the first page of the book. - Cover images for sideloaded books in the SD card are not stored. They are generated each time they are needed. And they are the first page of the book. I haven't seen a problem like what you describe. My first thought for fixing this would be to power off and on. That should clear the memory and cause the images to be regenerated. Another try would be to remove the card and reinsert it. This again should clear the memory as well. It won't remove the details of the books from the devices library, so you won't lose the current reading position. A more drastic way is to remove the card and insert a blank card. Or at least one without your books on it. This will cause the device to remove all books on the SD card from its database. Then put the original card back in. All the books will be reprocessed and should turn up with correct covers. This will of course lose the reading status for all the books. |

This was happening to me for awhile. I believe only on the home screen. About 3-4 books were mixing up (mix and matching) each others titles....quite annoying....and I was surprised I hadn't seen any complaints here on MR.
I still have no idea WHY it was behaving this way...but it might have to do with one book getting messed up (it claimed to have run out of Adobe DRM time, though it was a DRM free book) and being one of the books on my home screen. But that is my best guess. Are you meaning it is happening in different screens on your Kobo or just on the home screen? What version firmware do you have? I haven't had problems since I updated to 2.3.1 (after that I also went and re-added that book, though it wasn't on the home screen anyway). Side information: I have all my epubs on an SD card and kepubs on my main memory...one book (the messed up one) was definitely an epub and so on my SD card...the others I'm not sure since I have both epubs and kepubs of those books and I'm not sure which file I had opened. At that point I wasn't actually reading the books (except the messed up book), but rather trying out dictionary capabilites in different langauges. Anyway, it interests me to see that some one else did have the same bug.... Good luck....might be a rogue book is the best I can come up with! |

Maybe try deleting the thumbs file? I often find a similar issue in some of my file folders in my computer, and deleting the thumbs file will clear it up. Maybe that will help?

The device doesn't use anything like that. If there is one, it was put there when viewing the images directory while the device was connected to a PC.

Using Calibre delete the existing cover of the book, add the cover you want then you MUST reconvert the book to epub again. Then you will have two copies in Calibre of that book. Run the new epub and you should have the new cover. Delete the old one. Up load to the Kobo; problem solved......... I hope. At least this works for me.
