I heard tonight that they aren't actually making it any more, because that distillery has closed. But they still have the odd barrel or two, and they bottle some more periodically. I don't know that I believe that, but it is a scary thought.

Last night, a flight of four Bruichladdich. Or it was supposed to be, but they didn't have the Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 10 Year, so I had him substitute a Talisker 57 North. The whole flight was delicious! Even the Laddie Classic, which is essentially unpeated. The Port Charlotte Heavily Peated was next, and a lovely, peaty, smoky and yet still floral PC. Then the Talisker -- the sea and salt right to the front in this Talisker I hadn't tried before. Finally, an Octomore 10 year. Like all Octomores, a seriously peated whisky! But even the Octomore has that characteristic fruitiness in the nose. All in all, a far better evening than I'd expected.

Well, this morning I'm going to make a cup of tea bag tea, whatever Fairmont brand they have in my room. Hopefully their English Breakfast -- it's actually not bad. I do appreciate the actual, real, kettle in the room.
Later, before I head back to the Ferry and home, I'm going to take a stroll past the Murchie's I saw in the next block over. I've been ordering from them for ages, so it should be fun to poke my nose in and try some stuff. |
