Various: Future Fiction Sampler. V1. 29 Dec 2011

The story of Future (Science) Fiction and Science Fiction (Stories) is one of the more complex among SF magazines, and started with the launch in March 1939 of Science Fiction followed eight months later by its sister magazine Future Fiction. The two magazines ran in parallel until late 1941 when they merged as Future Combined with Science Fiction. This ran for a further two years, although it changed its name twice - to Future Fantasy and Science Fiction in October 1942 and to Science Fiction Stories in April 1943 for its last two issues.

AFTER DOOMSDAY—JOHN COTTON

Stars occasionally burst, expanding enormously, giving out a vast amount of heat and then dying down again No one knows why this occurs but it does seem to happen to stars not at all unlike the sun. If it happened to the sun, the earth would stand about as much chance of survival as a butterfly in a furnace — The Last Judgment (J. B. S. Haldane)

THE RADIANT AVENGER—E. A. GROSSER

Gilbert Archer knew he wasn’t breathing. He clasped his wrist and felt his pulse; there was none. He should be dead, yet he had never felt more alive, and his body glowed with an uncanny radiance!
