The image posted by @meera says send-to-kindle gets PDF. If that's incorrect, then it's not an issue.

Have you read this thread? Most of the people who have downloaded from Net Galley received ePub format ebooks. Out of the books I've obtained from Net Galley, 6 of the 7 were in ePub format.

If you sent an ePub to Send to Kindle, you will get an Amazon reflowable format ebook (whatever Amazon thinks is best for your device). If you send a PDF using StK, can you guess what you receive? Either a PDF or an equivalent if you happen to have a Scribe.

Obviously that is the set of options for one individual book.

Send to Kindle will convert fixed layout ePub to fixed layout AZW3 (and likely send email reporting error in conversion); I'm guessing that's what they're using. If it is not fixed layout, ePub should get converted to KFX.

Send to Kindle PDF option should always be 'preserve layout' (so it converts to print replica) otherwise result is likely to be 'unreadable' when it tries to reflow. It's best to use the web browser or S2K apps and avoid email attachment send to kindle method, as you have more control.

Again, in my experience, most NetGalley books were reflowable epubs. Send-to-kindle converted to AZW3. Or at that time, you had the option of Adobe protected epub.

In the rare case, when it was a pdf, send-to-kindle still converted to an AZW3 which was a completely unreadable mess. But you had the option of Adobe protected pdf. So I would get that and read on a larger screen.

If you could somehow get the send-to-kindle to arrive as AZW4, then you could remove the DRM and use Kindle Unpack to extract a pdf you could read on whatever you like. But now your only real option for pdfs is the Thorium app I guess. Don't know how that is.

With the NetGalley send-to-kindle option, you have no choice because they email the file to your Kindle.

The Thorium app, to me, is klunky. Very primitive controls.

I could use my old Kindle Touch, copy the KF8 to calibre for DRM removal and convert to ePub to read on my Libra 2.

Yes, as I said, the epubs arrive just fine as KF8 with send-to-kindle from NetGalley. The Kindle I used is an Oasis 2. But pdfs come out as a completely unreadable KF8.

The post I was responding to was about the fact that you don't have a choice to use the email attachment version of send-to-kindle from NetGalley as opposed to the website or send-to-kindle apps. Because NetGalley is the one emailing the file to your Kindle.
