The error "Too Many Requests" indicates that the translation engine has refused your request. To solve this, you may increase the "Max interval" value in the Settings panel and try again.

The "HTTP Error 429: Too Many Requests" is caused by ...too frequent requests hammering the server.

You can dampen the effect by changing the plugin settings "Attempt times" and "Max intervals".

After changing the default from 3 times at 5 seconds to 5 times at 120 seconds one of my ebook translation completed without this error, though it considerably lenghtened the job.

Thanks for the tips. I tried to change the "Max interval" settings as suggested by @PoP, but also with no positive result. An attempt at another book in translation from German into Polish also failed.

I'm suddenly also getting this "HTTP Error 429: Too Many Requests" error, after translating 50+ books without any such problem with the max interval set to 100. Perhaps something changed on the side of Google???

I also translated some books using an earlier version of the plugin. However, after installing the last version and despite returning to the plugin where the translation was trouble-free, now it fails. I use google translate.
It's possible that this is a problem on Google's side and not a plugin.

Maybe the authors of the plugin will analyze this clue and find a solution to the problem?

Hi all,

Starting from version 1.3.0 and later, request method has been changed from GET to POST on Google for a larger request length.

We now suspect that this change could cause the error "Too Many Requests". We plan to change back to GET method in future versions.

New version v1.3.3 was released. The request method has been switched back to GET for issue "Too Many Requests".

Besides, it also: 1. added new translation engines: Google (Basic), Google (Advanced); 2. added retry timestamp in translation log.

Thanks for your amazing plugin . It has been incredibly helpful in my work and has saved me a lot of time.

However, I recently encountered an issue while using your plugin. I was trying to translate a book, and the process took several hours. Unfortunately, the translation was not completed, and I received an error message that read "urlopen error EOF occurred in violation of protocol (_ssl.c:997)>."

I am hoping that you could provide me with some guidance on how to resolve this issue. I would be grateful if you could let me know if there is any way to fix this issue or if there are any alternative solutions.

What translation engine you used? Is your Network Proxy enabled for translation?

Don't use ChatGPT. In tests where Google Translate wasn't an option it appeared to generate good translations.
Unfortunately it was plausible junk, like most of its output. Three people got unrelated readable translations of the same passage.

The new version v1.3.7 added support for concurrent requests to speed up the translation. It is only available for Calibre 5.0 or higher.

The default number of concurrent requests is 1. You can increase this number in plugin setting on [Request] to active the concurrent requests feature. When testing with Google Translate, if set the Concurrency limit to 100, 800 paragraphs took about 10 minutes.

It is only available for Calibre 5.0 or higher. The default number of concurrent requests is 1. You can increase this number in plugin setting on [Request] to active the concurrent requests feature. You can dampen the effect by changing the plugin settings "Attempt times" and "Max intervals". After changing the default from 3 times at 5 seconds to 5 times at 120 seconds one of my ebook translation completed without this error, though it considerably lenghtened the job.

Perhaps something changed on the side of Google???

However, after installing the last version and despite returning to the plugin where the translation was trouble-free, now it fails. I use google translate. It's possible that this is a problem on Google's side and not a plugin. @kindlefere Maybe the authors of the plugin will analyze this clue and find a solution to the problem? Regards bravosx

We now suspect that this change could cause the error "Too Many Requests". We plan to change back to GET method in future versions.

Besides, it also: 1. added new translation engines: Google (Basic), Google (Advanced); 2. added retry timestamp in translation log.
