The secret of the footer
I've been using Kobo ereaders for almost 3 years by now, two years of Kobo Aura One, and almost 1 year of Kobo forma, never use/own other ereaders such as Kindle though.
There is an option in the Settings to display reading progress on the footer of the screen when reading, providing three options: Page number or Percent read or Time remaining. And when I started to use Kobo, I wanted an option to toggle/loop the three choices on the footer quickly so I don't have to activate the menu, click the Settings icon and then set it in the Settings, exit the reading, and open the book again to see the result on the footer. I know a lot of tricks from all kinds of online sources of how to use Kobo, such as using Calibre with Kobo, kobopatch, some hidden preferences in "Kobo eReader.conf", etc., but never seen any person mentioned this trick: > Long press the reading process on the footer for about 2 seconds, it will loop the available choices(Page number->Precent read->Time remaining). This is just what I wanted. I accidentally long pressed the footer just now and found this feature that is never mentioned anywhere. This is just so exciting. Do you all know this trick? Are there any other tricks of Kobo that people likely don't know? |

The only one that I heard is that when a number is is italics you can tap it and then you get a box where you can change it. For example, in My Books, at the bottom where it says Page 1 of 23 you can tap on that.

In the UI, italics generally mean there is something that can be tapped. I've posted a list of the UI standards as I see them a few times over the years. A search should find it. I'll look later so I can see if anything has changed.

I'm sorry, I failed to find the thread in Google or this forums, could you please offer a link of that thread or at least some exact keywords I can use to get that thread?

Thank you!!- An accidental long press probably explains how my "page __ of ___" suddenly became "____% read" a few days ago. I didn't know how it had happened, and I went through the settings menu to change it back. Glad to know the quicker way to change it! |

It may not be useful for anything, but you can use HTML markup in collection names, as well as CSS through the style attribute and element. Unfortunately, this isn't very practical as there is a limit on the collection name length.
It will only render when you are on the homescreen , inside the collection, or deleting a collection. I haven't tested this, but it should also work with metadata such as title, author, or series. I can see this having potential use when combined with calibre. Using this you can produce some interesting results, particularly when using an <img> tag. Once the filepath is sorted out, it will actually display an image. Still, it probably doesn't have much actual use for Collections. |

It seems this feature is gone in the latest firmware.
And the chapter progress is displayed in the header now. |
