New Kindles on their way?

I’m not in the US so I’m not sure if it’s a glitch, but it looks like Amazon is offloading their remaining denim colored basic Kindles for 20$. Link here.

What I would really like is a return to earlier operating system simplicity, at least in terms of book organization and lists. I just got a new Kindle 2022 and there doesn't appear to be a way to show only the books that are loaded on the device. At least not with the Kid's Mode turned on. It's been very frustrating for both of us.

On Amazon Canada, the only Kindle ereader that shows as being in stock is the Scribe. The Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite & Kindle Paperwhite SE show as "Currently unavailable. We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock." and the Oasis doesn't even show on the drop down though a search for Kindle Oasis picks it up as Temporarily out of stock.

Makes me wonder if the Kindle 6" and the two Paperwhite models are the ones that will be replaced by the new models with the Oasis going quietly into the night.

That has to be an error I think. $20 without ads.

I'm pretty sure Amazon isn't going to resurrect the Oasis. I'd love to be wrong, though.

USB OTG is USB On-the-Go, which allows USB devices like phones to be USB hosts for USB devices like flash drives, keyboards, mice, audio adapters, etc.

Some non-bluetooth kindles such as (I think) the PW3 have USB OTG capability.

PW3 and Voyage have this (for VoiceView screen reader audio). Later Kindles have Bluetooth audio with Audible support, and OTG audio went away. I do not think OTG (for any purpose) is coming back.

So this might be for adding warm mode to the current Kindle 'basic'. Note the generation has not changed so that might be the only change. It's not clear this would need new submission to FCC so I'm guessing those applications are for new models.

A truly new model would likely be 12th generation.

The link is still active so I gave it a shot. I don't need a modern Kindle but I figured I'd gift it this Christmas to someone. It will not add to cart it gives you "uh-oh your cart is empty, echo echo" page. Adding an accessory then clicking add to cart gives you 2 of whatever accessory you chose.

I guess the only new device I might want is a PaperWhite 3 that is cheaper than the original PaperWhite 3. But not until after my original PaperWhite 3 dies.

My needs are meager. I'm happy with what I've got.

Well that’s rather underwhelming. Did we really need a 25% brighter Kindle Basic with a 20% higher price tag?

Edit: I’m not sure about the higher price tag, as I’m reading conflicting comments; it seems the (now discontinued) 16GB 2022 Kindle Basic was priced at 99 EUR but perhaps not in all markets in the EU. My own country is typically more expensive and we don’t use the Euro so I can’t compare reliably.

There will be USB-C. Amazon has been adding it to the new Kindles such as the PW5 and Scribe.
