With that said, I vastly prefer the 7" or 8" reading experience to a 6" screen. |

Most of the time I read on my 7.8" Nook GL4+. After using it for a while I much prefer it to the Oasis because I do change hands a lot and it is a distraction to keep rotating the reader. But it is heavy and I wouldn't want to go any larger.
When I recently had an arthritis flare in my hands, I switched to my Nook GL4e. Without its case, it is feather light and very comfortable to hold. The screen is not great and I might replace it with a GL4 if BN puts it on sale for Christmas. |

There were news articles written when Amazon finally added that to the Kindle. Why would B&N then say 'let's do the opposite' and think it was a good idea? Especially on a 6" reader? |

Yeah, but I'm 1) a klutz, 2) very critical of screen purity. If I had a scratch, I'd buy a new device.
Yes, coverless is much lighter. Still, I'm amazed that "front flaps" (vs front & back covers) is not more of a thing. I love my self-made front flap and don't mind in the least that the back of the plastic case gets a bit beat up. |

I guess we are all really different when choosing what is important for a reader. No wonder they come in all shapes and sizes. |

Yeah, 'rivers' in text bother me. When I first migrated from Nook to Kobo, I was critical of Kobo's text layout. Nook was just much better. Now it is the opposite.

I would be happy if Kobo removed hyphenation too and I'd no longer have to do it manually.

It would be nice if hyphenation could be turned on and off (and here come the posts about ragged right). But I think that would be a little too in the weeds for most users.

To get ragged right without screwing center/right justification, you'd need to edit the eBook as most as set to full justify. Using the justification setting in Aa does not work properly.

For me, these devices are all about portability. Thus my 6" eReader, 8" tablet and 14" laptop.
At home, I love my big 'ol 32" computer monitor however. BTW, 1920x1080 on a 14" laptop is indeed a challenge to see with older eyes (that's putting it mildly). But since a laptop is what you use when you can't get to your real computer (in my view), I go small so it's not a burden lugging it around. My laptop is for traveling/vacation use only. Since you can adjust font size so easily on an eReader, I personally don't have any problems with a 6" screen. I go coverless, and it fits nicely in my cargo pants pocket. But any larger and you'd probably introduce transportation issues. |
