Wharton, Edith: Summer, v.1, 3 Feb 2008.
A novel, first published in 1917.
Charity Royall is a lively but bored young orphan, trapped in a small American town. She can’t stand her job in a library (and isn’t very good at it). She hates being poor. Her guardian makes unwanted advances. Will a visiting researcher prove to be an escape route, or will she end up trapped forever?
