You can try adb sideload update.zip

It could be upset that you killed persist.
You can pull a copy of persist and look at it.
See if it tried to fix it itself.

When I used the sideload from adb option, the screen goes blank

You can always try my way.
Put update.zip on a flash drive.
Type "start autoupdate", plug in the drive, light a candle, make a coffee (or a beer)...

Also, what is the best configuration with AFWall+ when I want to disable every possible connection except a VPN and a app. Last time I used AFWall+, I had some unblocked connections...

Yeah, that should be about right.
"fastboot boot" will probably not work, nor "fastboot flash".
But since you're an EDL pro and you have a backup you can just use EDL.

"fastboot boot" will probably not work, nor "fastboot flash". But since you're an EDL pro and you have a backup you can just use EDL.
