It looks like Sigil to the rescue along with a bit of hand tweaking using winrar and a text editor it may be....

I converted the original .mobi ebook to .epub using calibre, edited it with Sigil and:
- converted using regex's the headings of the Book titles therein from <span> to <h1> and then let Sigil create the corresponding toc.ncx.
- corrected some issues with those foreign characters
- edited the Metadata
- replaced the small cover image with the one from the .lrf conversion.
- deleted the duplicate cover image page
- added a top margin of 0.83em to class ".calibre10" to replicate the para. spacing.
- minor fixes

A lot more labour intensive, but at least the original text is preserved!

What do you think about this .epub conversion?

That one is the best yet. In the toc I would remove the first entry and Tartuffe or The Hypocrite title should start a page. Personally some of the poems would be a bit better if they were single spaced but it is definitely the best so far. In gereral the spacing is better. You might try: p {margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0} in the CSS file and see what the results look like.

I just downloaded the classics, can't wait to read through some I have not read in a while (er never) I needed a cover for them, so here is what I used/made, didn't fancy doing one for each, so just did a simple generic one.

How do you efficiently get the page numbers and first publication dates for each of those books? Going on Amazon and opening up the Amazon webpage to get each book's page number and first publication date takes so much time.
